I know at my course it was overbooked but three people did not show up so the people who had it on like "rain outs" (though they were really "snow outs", were able to go in and ride.

It's like the luck of the draw man. So I hope you're lucky. If it's just one person over though, they should be able to let you slide in.

I am sorry for your bad luck, but I am happy that so many people are getting into motorcycling and trying to learn the basics, from the experts. :dthumb:

I might take offense to that comment. The people that teach the MSF course are not in my opinion the "experts". Like take for instance the guy here who is or should I say, WAS in the Army. He was an MSF Beginner and Advanced course instructor. He decided one night to take his bike out, drank and then decided if he could win a head on race with an 18wheeler. (he lost if you couldn't figure it out).

But still there are some of the MSF course instructors that are very good teachers yet some are not. So I would hardly call them "experts" since there is no way to measure the fact that they are "experts".

Drewpy: I think the easiest way is to call the testing center where you want to take the course around Tue/Wed of the week you want to try and take it. Ask if they've had any cancelations. I know two guys here that have gotten their courses this summer that way even though, on paper, the courses are booked solid until October.

There were 3 other alternates besides me (only allowed 4 per class when registering) and we all managed to get in.

Thankfully for us in PA it's free, w/ the exception of having to pay for ur permit, but we take a written test in class & must have a minimum % of Qs right. If we pass that then we can show up for the last day of riding instruction where at the end of the day we take our riding test & if we pass that we're licensed on the spot. In other words we get a little card 'til it's time to renew our license which is when they include the MC endorsement & we no longer need the other state-issued card.

I do also know that it cost me $90 in MO to take the course. It ended up getting x'ld, but at least I got the $ back.

:luck:

Same in Michigan!

Also, sometimes you can just show up and they'll take you in the class... most of the instructors don't mind!

In AZ completing your MSF corse covers the written, visual, and driving tests. From the looks of it on 2 of the MSF schools in my area, you are exempt from the written and visual. Its kina vauge, but it looks like the written is covered in the course. Im getting my permit right after Vegas trip next week, so I have to take the written anyway. I fear that there is a wait for the courses in AZ as well. I have to wait until I see how much my bike repair bill is before I could even enroll in the class.

I got up at 5am the first day registration was open on line and was able to get in. By lunch that day, all classes were full. In VA it's $69 and if you pass you only take the written at the DMV. We had 2 peolpe show up the night of the first class and they were able to get in because we had 2 "no shows".

The times I've been in MSF courses, in both IL and IN, alternates were let into the course for no-shows.

Drewpy... Your profile says you're in Florida for the summer? Not sure whre you are, but there's a new MSF school here in Jacksonville (A & M Motorcycle Safety) that I'm pretty confident could get you in just about whenever you want. The instructors are well-seasoned, and came from other schools in the area, and decided to open their own school.

I took the course from them last month, and had an AWESOME time. The range they have is huge and very nice, and since they're new, the bikes and equipment are obviously in great condition.

If you're still here in Florida, and can get up here to take it, PM me and I'll give you all of their contact info. The course runs all day Sat and Sun, and is $160. :dthumb:
