I was talking to one of my friends who rides and he was saying he listens to a iPod when he goes for long rides... Keeps it in his pocket and runs little ear bud headphones inside his helmet. How safe is it to listen to music while you ride? Do any of you all do it?

I know a bunch of people that do it. They said that it is not a big deal as long as it is on long distance rides and you know/are extremely familiar with your bike.

I was even thinkin' about getting the Delphi XM2Go thing (smaller than the iPod) and using that once I got comfortable with my bike. Two advantages:

1. It's satellite radio so it should recieve anywhere.
2. It can be hooked up to your car radio, if you have an aftermarket radio.

See, when I was living in NY, it was illegal to drive a car with headphones on. I never heard anything about a motorcycle though.

Its wierd...it's illegal in cars but I have never heard of anything about the MC's... I have my chatterbox and a AM/FM plumbed into it for some tunes... I need it. I usually have to ride about 1 hr on the h/w to get to WOS meets...

But the chatterboxes come with 2... and there isn't a option to get rid of just one! If it was illegal you would think that they would have it setup a differently!

The XM would be cool to have... but i think i would get sick of listening to the same type of music for the whole ride. That' why an iPod with my 3000 song library put on it would be ideal..

I use an mp3 player. My earphones double as earplugs as well, work very good, and the wind noise doesn't drown out the music with the plug style. Keeps the noise out when the music is off too. You can get em at like walmart for $5 or so.

You guys talk all this stuff about ipods and mp3's... I don't want to waste a nice piece of audio equipment if I go down... that's why I stick to a simple 6 channel digital FM radio... you know with presets... good enough... maybe with the price of MP3 players coming down...maybe I'll get one...
