when i am trolling through town in low gears my bike makes this ticking sound, sounds like when you put a baseball card in your bike spokes as a kid. is that normal? should i be concerned? the faster i go, the less i hear it, if it is still even doing it at all. what could it be...

I am going out on a limb with a dry or loose chain. Your hearing it try to ride up the back side of the drive sprocket then fall to the guide. It should fall off the drive sprocket instantley. Be sure your chain is lubed fresh, not just again but actually clean it, dry it, then lube it. If your chain gets guncky it is likely to tack to the sprocket. At lower speeds under less loads it can be noisy. This is just my guess.

Good luck, And I hope it isnt bad what ever it turns out to be. :2cents:

:iagree: ... :withstupi ...If it were a Honda, I would say the CCT
:withstupi drive chain.... needs to be lube or replaced! Put the bike on a rear stand and spin the tire by hand while in front of you... see if you hear it!

He hit the nail on the head. And check alignment.

Well you're right JK...the alignment might be the cause of the problem with the chain... You might want to invest in one of these! Here!

I'd agree with earlzach! Check that first....Earl is VERY knowledgeable about mechanical things on MC's! He helped me out so much on my SV...in the end he was right all along! Big props to ya Earlzach!! :dthumb:

I'll also go with the chain. It could be too loose and rubbing some part. But it could be caused by lots of other things depending where it's coming from. If it doesn't occur at idle or reving the engine that's good. Does it stop when braking? Does it come from the front or rear?

I don't know how anyone else survives without a centerstand. I must use mine every other day for routine maintenance and checking things.
