Well....I went out to a drag strip yesterday for my first time on my 929.
I got 3 runs, all in the low 12's. My best was a 12.032. I went out there not knowing a thing about dragging and I've never even tried to launch fast off the line until then. The first time a wheelied off the line and came down pretty hard, the second time a road the clutch too long and missed third gear toward the end, and the third time I almost stalled out at the line. I cant wait to get back out there next thursday because I know I can do a little better now that I've got an idea of what it's like.

I've got plenty of experience of dragging on the track with a car, but not the bike. I street drag race all the time...so i'm sure i'd be pretty good at the track. I know someone that goes a lot, so maybe I should go up to the track with that guy a few times and run the R1.

tighten your suspension for drag. practice clutchless shifting. practice takeoffs at lights when there is no traffic. i learned how to wheelie during my drag racing days.

i usually wait till after the 2nd gear change to place my right foot on the peg. you need to train your ears to where your redline is. avoid looking at your tach (i was surprised to see a shift light on my 2005 gixxer).

it's fun for a short period of time. but it doesn't compare to a road race track.

I like draging a lot but I don't want to sacrafice the rest of my riding just for the 1/4 mile.
I like to wheelie and race around corners so my bike will probably stay at stock height and stock swing arm length for a while.

Wish I could, but thats a lot easier said than done. I'm trying to get financed on a house right now, plus I have a baby due in less than a week.
I'll have to wait a while before I can get another bike. I'd like to someday have at least 2 bikes, but I'd really like 3. I like stunting, knee draggin, and racing, so it would be nice to have a separate bike for all three.
Of coarse that will prolly never happen though.

You can proly find a quiet road and practice launching. Your clutch will wear out a lot sooner though.

I HAVE BEEN GOING TO THE TRACK EVERY FRIDAY FOR THE LAST 2 MONTHS. BEFORE THAT I HAVE NEVER RACED A BIKE AT THE TRACK. I HAVE STREET RACED BUT ITS A LOT DIFFERENT ON THE TRACK. ITS ONLY AN 1/8 MILE BUT ITS STILL FUN CANT REALLY GET IN TO THE POWER AREA THAT A R1 REALLY HAS BUT IM STILL GETTING IN TO HIGH 6's. i HAVE CHANGED MY SPROCKETS 1 DOWN IN THE FRONT AND 2 UP IN THE BACK MAKE IS TAKE OFF SO MUCH FASTER BUT IT WILL POP UP ALL DAY. TODAY I LOWERED MY BIKE 3 INCHES AND TOOK IT TO THE TRACK AND BROKE IN THE 6's BEFORE THAT I WAS RUNNING 7.10 - 7.20 ALL DAY. IT STILL LIFTS BUT NO WHERE NEAR WHAT IT DID BEFORE IT WAS LOWERED. I RACE WITH A FEW PEOPLE THAT HAVE BEEN DOING IT FOR SOME TIME KNOW ONE GUY HAS A MID 5s BUSA AND ITS CRAZY. JUST REMEMBER TO BE CAREFUL AND DONT WORRY ABOUT BEATING THE PERSON NEXT TO YOU UNTIL YOU GET BETTER AT IT, AND FEEL MORE COMFORTABLE.

I'd love to do some bracket racing sometime. Heads up is pretty cool too. Im the type of guy that would like to blow the doors off some rich guy who spent tons on his ride and see the look on his face after. :cheers:

Bikes are way underrated around here, btw. my friends don't know squat.
