Here is some pics of my newest toy I just got over the weekend. This is a expensive hobby...what have I got myself into!! These cars range from $300-$800 just for the chassis, $150-$300 for the engine, and the radio and gear runs $100-$500 on average.
A friend of mine is in need of money real bad so he sold me this setup for $72.00 with a spare engine, 2 sets of tires, and all the radio gear. This is over a $1000 value.
This car is rated at speeds at or above 75 mph.
I spent $87.00 today at the hobby shop just buying fuel, glow plug igniter, wrech, and a few connection rods. This really blows because I have all this stuff at my parents house 600 miles away...so I have spares now.
I was into the gas r/c airplanes 8 years ago...but I haven't had the time or place to work on them anymore. The airplanes are just as expensive.
Here the pics...

How much do you want for it?
It's not for sale. Atleast not yet. I haven't even got to play with it yet! I got it running at 11:00 tonight...in the apartment..probably pissed off the neighbors.. but oh well. I'll have tune the carbs tomorrow and see how she does on the street.

I have been tinkering with this thing since I got off work at 3:30 and I just finished up at 11:30...I still have to tune it tomorrow. So frustrating at times.

That's another reason I wouldn't get one! I don't have the attention spane (sp?) to play with it for that long with no results! I need near instant gratification or I get irritated!

R/C is definitely expensive, I bought a fuel powered Traxxas from a hobby shop many years ago and by the time I had everything to get started, I was out $500 bucks. I sold it to a coworker because I got frustrated with getting the thing started (glow plugs can be [email protected]!!). I've been into R/C since I was kid as I have three electric models with the most recent being a 4-wheel drive HPI RS4Sport. The electric models can be as expensive with upgrades but definitely easier to get into. Unfortunately, I've been out of touch with the latest in R/C since I started riding. I'll probably give my son my R/C cars and get him into the hobby.

My older brother use to race the electric R/C cars professionally. He still has all of it, but it's sat up in my parents attic with all my gas powered airplanes since 1998 also. These hobbies are just so expensive. I think owning a motorcycle is cheaper. They are just so much fun tho.

:bonk:  :dupe:

The gas ones are way cooler than electric. But I believe that in all the records, like top speed and all, that electric still beats gas.

Yes they are fun. I never got into racing them as that's where the costly upgrades came into play. I ran mine with/against another coworker in the company parking lot on the weekends. There were a couple of places here in MI where you could race competitively as well as some friendly race days at some local hobby shops but not sure what's still out there. The last time I was actively in the hobby there were 1/8 or 1/5 scale, gas powered, touring cars on the market. These things were freaking huge with a disk brake, 4 wheel drive, capable of 30+ mph right out the box. The price tag on the car alone was an easy grand. I've thought about getting into boats and planes (specifically helicopters) but like you said these types of hobbies are expensive.

Edit - I'll get pics of my R/C electrics when I get home this evening.

No seriously... the gas ones are cooler but I was told that all the speed records are still held by electrics.
