I need to get her a cheapo lid so that she can ride with me on the back of my bike. Looking at spending as little as possible as she will not be a regular on the bike. I know, I know..."$10 helmet for a $10 head, blah blah blah" but I want to get her a decent lid for around $50 since she will probably only ride with me a few times. Anyhow, the lids that I am looking at are: Grex G06; M2R M1000, M10 or M5; MDS Edge; and Nolan Streetfighter Aero. These are all around $50-$60. Do any of these stand out as a "no-brainer" to get? Thanks for any and all advice!! Ride ON!!

They have some bell helmets at Wal Mart and Bell doesn't make that bad of a helmet. I remember consumer reports testing some of the $70-80 helmets out there and they came out just as good as some of the high end products for impact testing.

www.ebay.com. I bought mine there for $45, and there were some for $35 and $40. Just search for "Motorcycle Helmet". (These were all new helmets for sale by wholesalers.)

I would check ebay and maybe find a slightly used one... should be able to get a name brand one for about that much. I just sold like 4 of them on ebay for the $25-$50 price range...

Cost does not = Quality

I'm sure the large helmet manufacturers love people who think that way, but it's not always the case. Sometimes, but not always.
How many helmet factories do you think are out there?? the low end helmets come from companies like KBC HJC Bell and others, they just don't get the fancy paint job and different stickers...

:iagree:But I still wouldn't give my women any helmet that I wouldn't ware.
:iagree: Cost should not be his primary objective -- finding his girlfriend good protection should be.

The fact that she's not going to ride "that often" shouldn't be a factor. It only takes one bozo on the road to ruin both of your lives.

Cost should not be the primary factor and it isn't. Protection is my primary concern or else I wouldn't have bothered to ask this question- I would have bought any $30 helmet from Walmart/Kmart/Costco or even a garage sale. However, I have found some hlemets originally priced at $130 to $70 that are on closeouts for about $50 to $60. Specifically, the Nolan Streetfighter Aero originally retailed at $129 and is on closeout for $52!! Nolan being one of the top (but not as well known) helmet companies, and being rated by JD Powers as the 4th best behind Arai, Shoei, and KBC leads me to believe that their entire line of helmets are more than adequate. But since I am not absolutely sure on that, I was hoping that someone here had experience with them. Also, another helmet I neglected to mention was the AGV Arc II for $54 which originally retailed for $140. I know these 2 companies have good reps. How about MDS or M2R? If anyone knows a little about these, let me know!! Thanks and Ride ON!!!

Yep, especially since Motorcyclists Helmet comparo and this months revist of it.

You can find alot of lids at reasonable prices, HJC, KBC, Vega.. etc.. all of which are good lids, at a good price but still will protect her noggin in a safe way.

These articles are actually making an impact on the market. A friend that works the parts counter at a M/C dealer was telling me the sales on the lower priced lids are through the roof. The big names haven't made any real price increase for the 06 models.

That is nothing but good for us! As long as it doesn't stint the search to make better helmets!
