Hey guys I'm new to bike I just picked up a 2k zx6r a month ago. And I have a few questios first of is it hard to change the oil or should I take it to a shop, they quoted me 60 and if the plastiks need to be removed 90. Also my battery is dyeing like if I go riding and it would be fine but some times allof the sudden the battery just gets drained. Don't laugh I'm a noob but do they have an alternator? As for the dead battery. You need to take it to a shop and let them check both the battery and charging system.
Alternator = stator on a bike.

I would disconnect the battery and take it out of the bike. Then I would put a battery charger on it (2 amp max) for an hour or so. I would then add water to the full line (wear safety glasses). Then I would install the battery and use my $10 digital voltmeter to see if the charging system is charging the battery.
The battery should read 12 volts before starting, and about 13.5 volts at 5,000 rpm. If it's still reading 12 volts at 7,000 or so, the alternator, regulator, rectifier, wiring, or battery is bad. Then you need a mechanic or service manual to do more troubleshooting.

Hey guys thanks, I'm a him my name is joe. I'm new to bikes not motors I drive an 11 sec neon wich I built my self. As the changing the oil I've never done it on a bike so I'm kind of hesitant on that but it looks pretty easy as I can reach the filter and everything quite easy. But how much oil should I use any specific/prefered. As for the crarging the batt was brand new I bought the bike from a guy who had it in storage for over a year and the old batt was dead so to avoid problems I bought a new one,plus he gave me 200 of the price for a bat. Also when it died today I jumpstarted the bike and it idled good but lights were really dim. Then it just died again and no juice on it. We did it again and had it at idle for like 5 min and ithad no charge at all. Is the stator expencive I really don't want to add it to the cost of the bike. Any way of testing it?

My :2cents: It is rare that a bike have an issue with mechanical charging parts. It is usually a bad battery or connection via a loss, broken or corroded wire.
Refer to No Worries post for testing. A bike and a car have all the same parts. They are designed a little different and have different names but still the same.

First off, :welcome:
The oil... pull the oil plug, if there is plastic in the way... follow the screw trail and remove it!
Change the oil filter.
Replace the oil pan drain plug.
Get your oil, pour it in...
As far as how much... check your owners manual..but it probably is 4 quarts!
Battery, do the check like NW said, and there is also the small possibility that the battery is just junk aka, either bad part or wasn't setup and charged correctly when the acid was added! Take it back to where you got it and get a new one!

Hey guys I think that's where I messed up. I was in such a hurry to ride I didn't charge the bat after adding the acid. I should of not listened to my dumba $$ friend who said the bike would charge it after a while of riding. Well ill take that bat back and get a newone and charge it b4 I ride. Ok on another note I went to a local bike shop for a filter and oil since I looked at the bike and ill be doing the service myself. I got the filter but they don't cary any full syn oil. I really don't know what type of oil the previous user used, but I would like to use full syn. Can I use some of the stuff they sell @ aoutopart cus I saw some motorcycle oil on one of autozone aisles thanks in advance.

On the battery... that would be the problem. Follow the directions. And stop listening to friends that don't know anything! First off your bike only has a stator... which is only designed to maintain a battery after a start! It will not charge it from any form of dead state!
On the oil... you are getting into a question for the ages! So I'll state my :2cents: DO NOT use car oil! Car oil is not designed to work with your wet clutch. If that place doesn't have the oil you need/want, then go somewhere else. Otherwise you may be able to order it online... try www.kneedraggers.com

Its not a bad idea to use a synthetic blind if you don't know was used previously. Its not such a shock to the clutch. I'm sure your shop caries that. If they don't You need to find a new shop anyway.
If they give you a hard time about swapping the battery. Get them to put a real charge on it at least.

I had 14k on the bike when I got it, and switched to synthetic. I recently posted a maintenance site Ive been using for my 01zx6r. The site uses the 2000zx6r as reference. Its the same bike though as my 01 and obviously the same as your 2000. It covers a bunch of stuff, including changing your oil, with pictures and everything
