Need help choosing a good, affordable jacket

2 weeks after sliding 50 feet along the asphault and i wish i'd broken something instead of having road rash. stupid me wasn't wearing my crapola leather "cruiser" type jacket which would have saved my skin. truth is i didn't wear it cause that thing blew up like a baloon above 60. anyway, i'm definately going to invest in a new jacket. i want something that is both breathable and waterproof as i live in florida (i'm guessing this would involve having something with a liner). i know some of you will say "go buy the newest joe rocket gear" but i just don't have that kinda money. i'm not trying to skimp on safety, but i do want to find something affordable. i'm thinking $130-150 ish or lower? what brands/styles can you all recommend? i'm also looking for a new helmet as the one i was wearing impacted the ground when i hit (thank God i was wearing that). thanks a lot!

Its going to be tuff to find a breathable water proof jacket. Most all are water resistant but, we know there is a big difference. The hard part is all jackets that I have found that actually claim to be water proof are warm winter wear.

Why can't you just get another leather jacket that just fits better. I have been in down pours in my JR leather and have never gotten wet thru the jacket...other than the breather fabric up the inside of the arm...

Looks nice... you might be onto something.

Have you tried this on in person yet? I always TRY to do this if possible.

I generally, in my opinion, don't like textile cause it is a one time use in a crash. Where as leather, most of the time, can be used over and over again... just ask a budget racer! But that is just one small thing that I think of... many others love textile!

i was looking at this jacket from AGVSport...

http://www.kneedraggers.com/details/AGVSport_Carbon_Sport_Textile_Jacket--503473.html

"Removable and washable windproof/waterproof Hydra Bloc liner."

and it's textile so it should be breathable in the summer. does this look like an option?
IDK about that one.
The Joe Rocket Ballistic Series (specific model unknown) that I have is defiantly water proof. Tested dry by me. It is also my winter jacket of choice. My JR Meteor jacket is water resistant. Summer jacket but you will get mildly wet around vented areas. Both My A* and AGV leather jacket stay dry except the textile areas.

They're all nice... but I can't stress enough... that you must try one on. The fitment is more important than anything!

I just got a Tourmaster Jett jacket for 90 bucks new. I really like it but its probably a little warm for Florida. I've been real happy with all the Tourmaster stuff I have(Jacket, Pants, Tailbag) and the prices are real reasonable.

I do like Jeeps said... get black and black or black and silver so that if you get a new bike that is a different color the gear don't look stupid. Like wearing Yam blue on a Kaw green bike!

And Twisty's speed rag jacket is real nice! Even Pippi's speedrag meshy is real nice!
