I have an old Kwik Lift front stand that a bought when I had my 1100. The pin that slips up into the steering stem, is too large for the new 1000 or even my '97 750. Does anyone have a front stand that lifts the same way and can measure the exact outside diameter of the pin? It has to fit a '96 - '04 GSXR 750 or the '01 - '04 GSXR 1000. If I can get the diameter, I can go find a shop with a lathe and easily have it turned down.

No, it's somewhat long (I'll have to take a picture if it helps) with the thicker end fitting into the stand's "sleeve" and the smaller diameter end into the steering head. The thicker end is probably 3" long.

Here's a picture of the pin.Though it's hard to tell, it's lined up with the 1" mark. It's 6.5 inches long overall, with the thicker side 4.25" which in it's entirity sits in the stand's sleeve.

Go to the nearest tool shop, motorbike shop, etc, and buy a set of vernier calipers. A decent set will cost about $40 AS, so I'd be guessing around $20 - $30 US. They may take a bit of reading/trial-and-error-on-known-dimension-items/help/etc to learn how to read them properly, but I'll guarantee you that you'll get more than 1 use out of them if you're working on bikes.

Yeah, learned how to read the original style (not dial or digital) when I was a kid, I just haven't found a good set when I'm ready to spend the money. So, I thought I'd see if anyone has a front stand that could measure it accurately. I have an old "no name" pair, but don't know how accurate they are. Could use them in a pinch, though. :dthumb:

It is WAY simpler than that...

Go to your powersports dealer and/or online vendor. Order the correct pin for a pit bull stand. They use the same setup. They will have what you need and it won't be any rigging... I can get you the number (which is how you order the pins) when I get home...

OK... I got the info off my Pit Bull Stand...

Your '05 GSXR 1K uses a Pit Bull #5 pin
Your '97 GSXR 750 uses a #6 pin

And these pins are used on tons more bikes as well.....

The only other thing worth mentioning is that all the PB pins I've seen aren't that long. But they do mount the same way to the stand or so it appears.

The front fairing is almost an inch lower below the headlight.

My Pit Bull sheet shows the '05 1K on the #5 pin... I'm sure they took that into consideration...

Thanks, I'm really inching towards making it work on the 750 right now as it needs some tweaking. Now, where's that post from GasMan that has the actual sizes in mm....or maybe I was just dreamin' :skep: Plus, if needed, I can pull the fairing first, as I'd probably need to anyway to get to whatever it is that I'd need that stand.

Yea! It fits but, It hits.
If you are very careful, you can lift with upper fairing on. I just put a rag between the lift and plastic and make sure every thing is right. If the pin isn't 100% in its proper place. It puts a lot of stress on the plastic.
