Hey guys, i getting ready to sell the gsxr, and i was looking into the '05 zx10r. I know someone that has one that he would sell for $10,200. Do you guys think that is too much? It only has about 1500 miles on it, and he has always taken really good care of it. It has a two brothers carbon fiber slip on, scotts steering damper, integrated tail light, euro front signals, seat cowl, windscreen, and vortex rear sets.
I know i get get a new '05 for about $9000, but i would have to get a steering damper and exhaust. What do you guys think?

Even though the bike has mods on it, the seller can't expect to get his money back on that. You'd be better off getting a new one in this case.
:iagree: You're getting about $1500 worth of extras that have already been installed on the bike. If you can get a new one for $9K and do the installs yourself, then that is your best bet. You'll get a new bike that YOU will get to break in and you will KNOW how it's been ridden because you are the only one to ride it. If you can get the seller of the used bike to come down to $9500 and you trust that the bike has not been abused, then you might be better off getting the used one. But at the 10,2 price, I'd just buy new and install the stuff I wanted.

Too much money...the guy is going to take a bath trying to sell an 05 with mods. That's his problem, not yours. Do yourself a favor and buy a new one if you are looking to spend that kind of money.

www.kbb.com is notorious for over-valuing bikes and they show it having an average trade-in value of $6185 and average retail value of $8575. If you can get it somewhere in the middle, you are doing OK, otherwise walk away. Mods don't mean crapola in terms of value on a bike...a new/extended warranty has some value.

Of course, what do I know, I'm only the GM of a Kawasaki dealership...

my rule of thumb is never pay for a used bike, for what I could get brand new cheaper. Aftermarket mods in my opinion lessen the value of a vehicle. I agree with everyone in here. Go buy new, install the mods yourself. Not only will you be probably paying close to the same amount, but you get the satisfaction of doing it yourslef, and its BRAND NEW!

:luck:

The value of aftermarket mods is dependant on what would you do to that bike if it was stock. If you would pipe it, jet it, and put a few other things on it and the bike already has that...then it's worth something cause not you don't have to buy it. :2cents:

Yeah, thats kind of what i was wondering. I know the guy that is selling it. He is a Kawi dealer, and he babies his bike. By time i buy a new bike and put on a steering damper, pipe, and seat cowl, i will already have $9900 in it.

It's all up to you...cause you're the one paying for it. But I would then check into those bank interest rates... that might change your mind one way or the other...

Good point GM....People don't think about adding intrest rates in the price. The intrest rates have been slowly going up lately too. I locked in at 4.70% on my bike in 2003. I locked in at 4.45 on my new truck in July of 2004. I am sure the best rates you may find now are going to be 5+%

So a new ZX is 9k, and they lose 1k once they are outside the door. The mods lose half their value, so it's worth about $8,750. Offer him 8.5k. But I would see how much you can get for the Gixxer.

I guess it's the American way not to be happy with what you got. I would keep the GSX-R 1000, if that's what you have, and spend the money on gas and tires. I've only got 1k on my new tires and I can see wear on the front edges. Actually, I'm bragging not complaining.
