iam looking for a new pair of gel grips.....and i was wondering how hard it is to remove the old ones and install the new ones?. :help:

I just did this about 3 weeks ago..if u still have the stock ones on, u may have to loosen them a bit with a small screwdriver..kinda stick the screw driver in the end of the grip and circle around the inside of the grip, separating it from the handle or throttle..just be careful that you dont puncture your current grips in case u want them later on. after that, they'll slide right off.

Easier to put on, just use alittle hair gel or hair spray, and they slide right on. Then let me sit for awhile to adhere to the bar and ur good to go.

iam likeing the gel grips # 719....another ?...were the ends open so the bar ends can be installed .?...because in the pic it looks like they are closed

yeah the old ones are a bummer to take off i was tempted to cut the old ones off!! reinstalling wasnt a problem. i got a set of harris (i think thats how you spell it)?? looks alot nicer than stock

You could also use a spray varathane or varnish. I used that a couple years ago for the grips on my atv. Still holding strong.

The 719s are what Matt got for his bike. The ends are closed, but can be removed to fit a bar end on them without damaging the grips. There are a couple of ways of going about it that will give you a clean break. Can't remember how Matt got his off, but I'm sure he'll share.

Easiest way to remove old grips is definitely slicing those suckers off and tossing them, but there are tricks of the trade that can get them off.

I use the blow gun with my air compressor.
Just stick the nozzle up to one or both ends real close and blow air under them.
You may still have to use something to break the factory glue.

When reinstalling the new ones;
Go to the auto parts and get some 3M yellow trim glue.
It will stay slick long enough to get them set.
Be very stingy with application so it wont take a week to dry.
Just a small strip on two side should do it.

that is how i do it and it works well just dont put to much air pressure under the grip it can sometimes deform the grip depending on the type you buy

spray paint works well to hold them :2cents:
