Hello everyone. I'm a new rider and new to the forum. A month ago, I took the plunge and bought myself a new 2005 Suzuki SV650. It's not really a sportbike, but I figure you folks would welcome me with open arms.

I know most people will recommend used bikes as a first ride. However, the one SV650 I found used was 5 years old, had 7000 miles on it, was the "s" model (the faired one) and was only $1000 cheaper than a new one. Any other used bike I came across locally just didn't suit my needs, so I went with the new SV.

Anyhow, I just finished breaking the bike in. Here's a pic of the bike. I have already changed out the bars for something much more comfortable, and put some mirrors on that give me a much wider field of view and clean up the look of the bike considerably. What do you think?

Nice bike, and I love the color. However, don't fool yourself into thinking the SV is not a sportbike because with some riding lessons and experience, you'll be able to ride circles around some guys on "real" sportbikes. The SV is completely capable and the great thing about them is that you can continue to upgrade it to meet your needs as your riding improves. Most people on "real" sportbikes don't take the time to learn how to ride properly and they just end up being squids. Learn correct procedures from the beginning to avoid bad habits that could stick with you forever. Now, go out there and have fun, but please, be safe. Oh, and :welcome: :twfrox:

:welcome: , Good to see a new poster.
As far as the bike Great choise. It looks great with those bars. I have the same bars on my bike. We hope you stick around to share some riding stories with us or just everyday chat. Most of all be safe and learn something every time you ride. :dthumb:

You made a great choice for your first bike :dthumb: My first bike was also a naked SV650. You will be able to learn everything you need to learn on this bike, then you will be more than ready to step up later on with no problem.
Just a tip of advise on the SV..don't do 1/2 mile wheelies with it. Look at my sig...you will starve the front cylinder from oil and throw out the rod bearings and crankshaft. Little wheelies here and there won't really hurt it...but if you are just beginning to ride you have along way to go before you will ever get into this level.
The bike looks great!

Thanks for the wheelie advice. I read about your plight over the weekend, shortly before you made this post.

You're right, I am a long way away from wheelies (if I ever get there at all - I'm a big chicken).
