Greetings everybody!! I'm new here and hope to meet some people, shoot some ****, get some advice, and maybe help someone. Site looks good and very entertaining. I am a mature aged rider and have always ridden sports bikes or large capacity road bikes, but as long as it has two wheels I like it. I've owned about 16 bikes over the years and am not brand conscious. Thats a brief rundown on me.
Now to the nitty-gritty bits.
I am about to embark on a project to build a road bike. I've been thinking of this for a few years. I want to build a single cylinder cafe racer along the lines of the old Ducati 450 desmo. I plan on using the frame from one of the now defunct Japanese 250 road bikes (Suzuki RGV, Kawasaki KR1, or maybe Honda NSR grand prix bike); a 600 or 650 four-stroke engine from a dirt bike, suitably retuned for road use (any of the Japanese makes);Front end from a modern 600 road bike with matching rear wheel, and custom made bodywork. Small, light and simple, with bundles of grunt. This will be a cafe racer, not meant for long distances or cruising. Obviously it wont have the performance of one of the 600 pocket rockets, but its main purpose is pure, unadulterated fun. Before I get too carried away, I would appreciate any feedback, thoughts, opinions or advice. I don't know how I will go about getting it registered (in Australia), but it must be possible.Somehow. I hope to be able to do all this for under $20,000 in less than 6 months. That's plan A. You must have a plan A. As I said, all comments welcome. Ciao for now.
