New parts advice...

So you just got it. Where did you get it from?? A dealer or private sale? If dealer, they normally go over the whole bike before selling them so it should be pretty well. If private, then have it all check. ie a tune up and reg maint done. It all depends on what you want to do to it. Are you wanting to add HP or just get it ready to ride good?? Lots of great sites and parts to get for your ride. You can try doing a search for airfilter, oilfilter, more horsepower and it will pull up a lot of great threads we have already touched apon and got replys freom the oil gods and grease gods. Can't go wrong when you receive it from them.

how much was it ridden before you bought it?

Well i got it from my firend and he didnt put alot of miles on it. The bike is very clean and neat in appearance and starst right up and seems to run well. i would like to add a little HP but im not worried about HP gains if its too much $ but a lil more power would be fun.

any info you can get on it, as far as maint records, is a good start..u'll wanna check the air filter, see how when the oil/filter was changed last, tire wear, make sure the suspension is set to ur preference when were the plugs changed out last..those a few things to check out.

as far as brand names, Scotts and K&N are about the best filters you can get, and will more than pay for themselves over time. as far as the type of oil, get the TWF oil gods stirred up at ur own risk! LOL..u'll see what I mean when more of them get online later.

Here is the best advice you will get - sell it. Buy an R6 and don't look back. Other than that all these clowns here can give you tips on oil, etc. etc. etc. because I am tired of typing.

Actually, the Kat 600 is a good bike for a newbie rider. I am also in the Chicago area (out by Aurora) and have my own shop that can take care of most of your needs. With all of the questions you have, it may be better to meet in person and talk about what you are looking for both short and long term.
