How often do you change your plugs? I usually change mine every year but my mates only change them every other year. I do notice that when removed they don't look that bad

Yes they are... at LEAST! But they are very nice!!!
No kidding.... I use the NGK Iridiums in mine too since that's what it comes with stock and what the manual calls for, and since the dealer wants about $20.00 each :yikes: , I looked elsewhere and I think the cheapest I found was sparkplugs.com for $11 each. Still pretty damn expensive!
Ok, so i know that this is some old stuff butt........

Im about to come up on a year with my bike and starting to look at things for the standard "tune up" I have been reading on new spark plugs on here so i went messing around on the yamaha website expecting something roughly like $25 a piece for new plugs. Not that I was planning on ordering them from yami but just wanted to get a general idea of what to expect. I came across these HOLY SH*T!! 4 plugs for $275:yikes: :yikes: :yikes: are these normal plugs? What is the difference between them and other ngk plugs that makes them so special?? I about flipped out when i saw this.

Just wondering what ya'll thought, and/or what you all with yami's use.
I'm not sure of it, but the plug shown is a special radial discharge plug with no side electrode, specially made for engines with shaved heads and narrow squish areas. It has no side electrode, to keep valves and pistons from hitting it.

Depends on your needs...they are an extremely low volume production, specifically for supersport racing engines that have extensive mods, such as shaved heads, dished forged pistons, higher lift cams, oversize valves, that no other plug will work. There is nothing special about them as far as performance; they just work in areas where other plugs will foul valves and pistons. Rather than sticking down into the swirl area, they fit in the head flush. So are they worth it?

Only if you need them.
That's what I was thinking. I imagine they would be priceless if you needed them. Aren't there cheaper alternatives?
Have you tried http://www.clubplug.net/ ? They have NGK's for alot cheaper. I've purchased plugs from them in the past but I bought my last set from Autozone. They carry NGK plugs for $2-$3 per plug.
I remember adds for those gap-less sparkplugs in JC Whitney catalogs from 35years ago. Showed a hunter with a rifle hunting ducks. The first cartoon stated that you wouldn't hunt ducks with a rifle, and the shot is shown going past the duck. The next cartoon showed a shotgun blast heading toward the duck. The analogy was supposed to be that a scattered spark is better than a single spark.

I drove a flame thrower in the Army, and the naphalm was lit by one or more sparkplugs (I can't remember). One of the plugs we used was a gap-less plug from JC Whitney, and it almost always worked.
As long as the electrodes look good (no wear) then you can get by with gapping them. Follow the maintenance schedule and you'll be fine. I haven't changed the plugs in the Aprilia in three years. I was thinking about gapping them when I take the time to clean my last road trip off of the bike (I was about to trade the bike in for an ark)
I change my plugs whenever I change my oil and smell gas in it...
My POV has always been this... if I'm going to pull them out... I'll replace them... piece of mind!
