What's up guyz,

Just wanted to introduce myself as a new rider. Just bought my first bike 2 weeks ago....a 2005 GSX-R600. Im not necessarily new to riding though, Ive been riding dirtbikes, quads, snowmobiles for almost 8 years now. Been meaning to get a bike for a long long time but parents never would allow it (still live at home, im 21), finally went against their wishes though and brought her home.

I love it. Im taking it somewhat easy. Not gonna be a wheelie man for a while....I leave that to the dirtbikes for now, dont wanna learn the hard way on the street. Ive been over 100 a few times now, but wasnt long lasted because its cold as hell in NY. Havent rode in about a week now....cant wait for the spring!!!!

If anyone has any advice or comments for me...please feel free to let me know your thoughts....

Thanks guyz

I have a question if it's not too personal, what kind of job do you have at 21 to be able to afford a brand new bike and truck? LOL

I was still a broke college kid at 21. Of course I didn't live with my folks and paid my way through school at 21.

anyways, :welcome: :twfrox:

Have you taken the MSF class?
I cant stress enough how valuable that is to a new street rider. They teach so much more than how to clutch and change gears. :2cents:

Plus you get a huge insurance break. I had guys that been riding for over 20 years in my class and they said they learned new things.

nah its cool.

Well...i used to outright own a 2004 Cobra....and when i traded it in I had like 23k to put down on the truck....so i financed the remaining 14k over 5 years.

The bike...all i paid was 400 bucks up front for insurance purposes and my payments are like 149 a month for 5 years...even though i will probably pay like 200 a month and get it over with sooner.

Im lucky, im in my last year of college that my parents are paying for. I only pay for books. I used to work with electrical contractors and now I got hooked up with a pharmaceutical company in facility/operations management in which they are creating a position for me upon my completion of the degree.

so theres a little blurb about me.

I am not familiar with this course...can you please give me a little more info about it....

sounds like something i guess i should do. I could always use insurance breaks here in NY. Im paying 1150 a year for just liability for this bike. I financed into my payment a total loss protection plan that will cover me if the bike is totaled or stolen but I would still like to help out my liability.

what is the course? and what do they teach? thanks in advance

Dang, GMAC always has good rates. I am paying under 600 and have full coverage. MSF, I think saves you 10% or so. It's good course to take.

600 for full coverage????? How old are you and where do you live...LOL!!!

I'm 21 like i said and live on Long island. I have 1 speeding ticket on my licenese in the past 5 years, for 15 over the limit. (even though i have lost about 4 PBA cards and almost my uncles badge for being picked up multiple times at over 150mph....LOL)

but of course...i couldnt manage to get out of the 15 over ticket!!! thats because it was issued by a state trooper!!!! he didnt care about PBA cards or badges from the city or LI....

anyway...yea the dealer that i bought my bike told me that they were quoted at like 4,000 per year for me and the bike for full coverage....so i took out liability alone (1150.00) and the financed into my payments a charge of 1750.00 that covers a total of the bike, or theft. (for 5 years)

I will never pay 4 grand a year for a machine that only cost me 10k. thats ridiculous. I guess its high because i live on long island and im 21??? someone help me out. I mean...i only paid 4500 a year for my 38k Cobra with 500+hp. How could a machine that costs 1/4 of the price still be as high for insurance?????

I was told that my insurance will go down when i get my motorcycle license....I have my permit now.....is that true??

I'm sure it is.
The big reason a bike has such high rates are more because they are very fast, easy to steal and sale. They are almost always a total loss in accident claims.

yea thats very true....I would think its very very easy to steal and sell or maybe ever "fake" a theft so people can collect on the insurance.
