Setting your second MotoGP pole position is not a bad way to spend your 24th birthday.
Nicky Hayden took pole in Germany today and went part way to shutting up those in Europe and the States who said he only won at Laguna because he knew the track so well.
"I knew I had to get on the front row, I didn't qualify well here for the past two years and suffered for it, he said.
Nicky is well aware of the three weekend break coming up in the MotoGP calendar and doesn't want "to go home and be a prick for two weeks" around his friends and family.
Valentino Rossi didn't make the front row but doesn't seem too bothered. His team has fixed the problem with the front - "Yesterday we were in the ****" -- but still The Doctor thinks 'We are not strong here, the track is not for our bike.' Rossi thinks the guys who put in the most impressive qualifying with the best collections of fast laps were Biaggi and Gibernau. He reckons Hayden will suffer after half distance when the tires go off, but is very impressed by his sliding style in fast lefthanders...
There is a rumour that HRC have new chassis here for Sete and Max but not for Nicky, who doesn't want one anyway. Sete denied knowledge of any such equipment in the front row press conference; Nicky says he should go to church more.
