i'm a big guy, like 280+. do you think a 250 could haul me around? i just need a commuter bike that i can drive on the slab every now and then. i need to upgrade from my scooter, and i want to do it pretty cheaply. there's a kawi dealer in the boro and i want something economical (price, gas, insurance, etc.).

try a 500, just a little bit more on the price, not that either one is a dent on teh wallet, but the 500 has more "ass" if you can call it that

:withstupi but the 250 will get you there. Maybe faster than your scoot if its not one of the big 100mph beast.

Biscuit... I really wouldn't! Honestly that is horrible mental pic. You would look like you were cr*pping a bike! And I highly doubt the 250 would make a highway speed with you on it... no offense... they barely do with anybody let alone a big guy like yourself.... :2cents:

You need to explain how you ended up with a 1000 cc bike so biscuit understands.

Good point...
the SV1000s probably isnt the best first bike to get. It has a lotta horsepower and torque which may be difficult to control when you start out riding for the first time. I got the bike because i placed a (low) bid on it on ebay and it happened to win.

If I had a 2nd chance, based on the common logic of many experienced riders, I would have stuck with getting the Kawi 650r or the suzuki sv650. V-twin engine (from what i understand) dont require the high rpms to get the bike moving.

Hope this helps!

You will be fine. Just be easy on the throttle.
With a 1000cc bike you can always have a 650's power. But you will never get a 1000's power out of a 650! Dont think about the size as being a difference in how it feels. You havent owned one to know the difference at all. I am telling you, keep your head on straight and you will do fust fine.

:iagree: if you can afford them.
A brand new monster 620 msrp @ $6595. Despite being 618cc, it's a lot more forgiving and more comfortable compared to any sport bikes (not to mention that you get extra style points for rolling in a Duc  ). I've seen plenty of 2000+ models selling around $4-5k here in California. It has got to be cheaper over in east coast where it's not riding season all year long.

:iagree: They are great stsrter bikes.
You don't have to sale me on a Monster. I miss mine and wish I had never sold it. I cant say the same about the 998.
IDK about the 620 pricing. Never looked for one, but they aren't as easy to find in my area. Seems that the ones that have'em don't want to part with'em. You almost have to buy new if you really want one.
