I went to my local dealer today for some odds and ends. They had just finished assembly of an 06 R6. I really like the looks of the bike BUT, I think Yamaha screwed up. No, I'm not talking about the RPM BS.
This thing has a flat hard seat and riding position seems race only. The seat is very high and will be an issue for those vertically impaired. If it were a little further reach to the bars. I would swear it was like sitting on a 999. Most all weight on the wrist and knees tucked high. So much for any all around title with this bike.
I'm sure it will kick some serious butt at speed and will find out first chance I get but, I fill sorry for anybody that wants/buys one for mostly commuting. :2cents:

They shouldn't buy the R6 for commuting, if they want a bike for that then buy a FZ1.:2cents:

I like how he points out in the beginning about the R6S. They could've at least kept the inverted forks and the 120/70 on that thing, but oh well. I've sat on a couple of these already (never ridden) and the seat is real hard like a Honda. I found the position decent. Maybe it's because I was only on it for a couple minutes. That'll prolbably be my next bike. It would be the only 600 I'd buy. I really want an R1 but just as the guy states. It would take a lot to get to the maximum potential of the R6. We'll see come October though.

I didn't even realize Yami was continuing the 05 R6. I haven't read that much on this subject. It just shocked me to find a R6 that didn't fill comfortable right from the start. Just not Yamahas style.

It's more like the 04 R6. Traditional style forks and the 120/60, just like the '04.

yeah they said they flipped the forks to cut costs... but the price is about the same isn't it?

personally I think it's to make the R6s a little less attractive to people trying to decide between the two... not that I think there's gonna be many of them

I don't like the way the rear turnsignals are at. or the license plate...
I'm pretty sure no one does. it is a quick release system (for track days). Same with the mirrors. If the fender was tight up against the undertail it wouldn't serve much of a purpose way up there if you look at it. There's a couple nice elim kits on eBay floating around that incorporate the quick release system still but they are nice and snugg up against the undertail. Looks 100X better.

I have sat on the new models, not too bad. I like both of the 06 r6 models but i will stick to my 05 r6. My next adventure is going to be a r1 but thats years down the line for me.

It felt fine for me too, but I quickly noticed the hard ass seat. But that can be changed in $250 or so.
