I'm trying to get some opinions on suzukis SV650S. Anyone?
Hmmm...I'm gonna go with slow. First bike? Not a bad choice, if you like naked bikes. It's a good starter bike and the 650S has a cool looking upper cowl. Not a big fan of V-twins but that's just me. There are people that own/owned 650's so they could give you a more personall opinion. What year were you thinking about?

I'm thinking about an '02. Yes it will be a first bike, the general consensus I've heard is it's generally a good choice for that reason. Just trying to get some feedback is all.

What do you mean naked bike? Sorry if thats a stupid question.

I have about 2500 miles on my first bike, a 2005 SV650. I'm loving every minute of it. Some people say it's slow; I don't have a problem keeping up on the group rides. Sure, it's slow compared to a sport bike. But, it's a hell of a lot faster than anything I have ever driven on four wheels, that's for sure.

You can see mine on my blog, after a couple mild modifications - drag bars, bar-end mirrors and a fender eliminator.

Naked means it doesn't have any side fairigs. The frame, and engine are open for all to see.

I'm not neccesarily looking for speed, since it's a first bike. I just want something that I can learn on and move from there.

The only thing I don't like about the appearance is the front headlight. On the S model this is covered. Is that correct?

The S model should have a sleak looking upper cowl. I would give you a pic but I don't feel like searching. Just go to www.suzuki.com and look for it there. Not sure what the '02 S model looks like.

The bike you speak of looks like this.

The SV is a great beginners bike. Its only slow on top end. You wouldn't hardily notice much else. It also has allot of room to grow with you with all the possible upgrades. The actually make very nice track bikes.

When you say slow top end, do you mean speeds in excess of 90mph? Or more/less?

If for some reason I need some power top end to manuever out of the way, speed up to pass etc, is that going to be a problem?
