The R1 is a pretty beastly ride, and hard to add alot of improvement to an already outstanding unit, although in the wake of the new ZX10, it hasnt gotten quite as much press, as it did a couple years ago. ...I like the seat/handle bar height, as it seemed to fit my stance pretty well...bars not too low (ala Gixxer) that I feel like a pretzel after Im done riding it.

ahhh, you need to check the specs. try 185 hp. 379 pounds.
i have a 04 R1 and i can tell you, its a beast. i have already kissed the asphault from an unexpected wheelstand on a 3rd gear shift. you haveta watch the new close ratio trans.
that being said, its an incredible bike. just haveta learn the bikes characteristics. hopefully not the way i did, lol.
