Couple of quick questions:

#1. What's the cetane rating of Kerosene.

#2. What are the major diffs between kerosene, #1 diesel, and #2 diesel?

I want to run my 75k BTU All Pro shop heater on red #2 diesel. I can get it for about $1.50 per gallon.
I'll check on the exact numbers...but as far as cheaper...you'll probably best with the #2... Red Oil or #2 High Sulfer...it is dyed red for "non-road" tax!

The major difference between #1 (Yellow Oil) & #2 (Red Oil) is the low sulfer vs the high sulfer. They are even using a #1 Ultra Low Sulfer Diesel now.

The Kero is essentially Jet Fuel (yes, for commercial jets, not military) with out the strict guidelines... One of the more familiar rules is that jet can't contain ANY color/dye (must be Water White), where as Kero can!

I will check on that centane ratings for you. I just don't know it off the top of my head, due to that I don't run the centane test at my location and don't remember it from working in Detroit!

According to a chart at work, the Cetane Index is 40 on the Kero and the #2H/red oil and 42 on the Low Sulfer Diesel

However, I still stick by my original assesment in the #2H due to the tax breaks should be the cheapest to run!!

Oh, and a off this topic side note, if you spill any of these fuels on your clothing... wash them in your washer like normal but spray "Simple Green" on the spot to get rid of the smell!! Works everytime...
