I did a search and didn't come up with anything so I just wanted to see if you guys have heard about this group...

they basicly just ride to the funeral of vets and show their respect... nothing other than making an apperiance... representing all who appriciate the sacrafice... but are unable to attened...

as the site says...
"We don’t care what you ride, what your political views are, or whether you’re a "hawk" or a "dove". It is not a requirement that you be a veteran. It doesn't matter where you’re from or what your income is. You don’t even have to ride. The only prerequisite is Respect."

Bikers Drown Out Anti-Gay Pastor At Soldiers' Funerals

How come stunters and street racers get all the media attention while brother bikers like this go un-noticed?? Yes, GMan...it's long but you need to read it to the bottom...:dthumb:

FORT CAMPBELL, Ky. -- Wearing vests covered in military patches, a band of motorcyclists rolls around the country from one soldier's funeral to another, cheering respectfully to overshadow jeers from church protesters.

They call themselves the Patriot Guard Riders, and they are more than 5,000 strong, forming to counter anti-gay protests held by the Rev. Fred Phelps at military funerals.

Phelps believes American deaths in Iraq are divine punishment for a country that he says harbors homosexuals. His protesters carry signs thanking God for so-called IEDs -- explosives that are a major killer of soldiers in Iraq.

The bikers shield the families of dead soldiers from the protesters, and overshadow the jeers with patriotic chants and a sea of red, white and blue flags.

"The most important thing we can do is let families know that the nation cares," said Don Woodrick, the group's Kentucky captain. "When a total stranger gets on a motorcycle in the middle of winter and drives 300 miles to hold a flag, that makes a powerful statement."

At least 14 states, including Oklahoma, are considering laws aimed at the funeral protesters, who at a recent memorial service at Fort Campbell wrapped themselves in upside-down American flags. They danced and sang impromptu songs peppered with vulgarities that condemned homosexuals and soldiers.

The Patriot Guard was also there, waving up a ruckus of support for the families across the street. Community members came in the freezing rain to chant "U-S-A, U-S-A" alongside them.

"This is just the right thing to do. This is something America didn't do in the '70s," said Kurt Mayer, the group's national spokesman. "Whether we agree with why we're over there, these soldiers are dying to protect our freedoms."

Shirley Phelps-Roper, a daughter of Fred Phelps and an attorney for the Topeka, Kan.-based church, said neither state laws nor the Patriot Guard can silence their message that God killed the soldiers because they fought for a country that embraces homosexuals.

"The scriptures are crystal clear that when God sets out to punish a nation, it is with the sword. An IED is just a broken-up sword," Phelps-Roper said. "Since that is his weapon of choice, our forum of choice has got to be a dead soldier's funeral."

The church, Westboro Baptist Church, is not affiliated with a larger denomination and is made up mostly of Fred Phelps' extended family members.

During the 1990s, church members were known mostly for picketing the funerals of AIDS victims, and they have long been tracked as a hate group by the Montgomery, Ala.-based Southern Poverty Law Center's Intelligence Project.

The project's deputy director, Heidi Beirich, said other groups have tried to counter Phelps' message, but none has been as organized as the Patriot Guard.

"I'm not sure anybody has gone to this length to stand in solidarity," she said. "It's nice that these veterans and their supporters are trying to do something. I can't imagine anything worse, your loved one is killed in Iraq and you've got to deal with Fred Phelps."

Kentucky, home to sprawling Fort Campbell along the Tennessee line, was among the first states to attempt to deal with Phelps legislatively. Its House and Senate have each passed bills that would limit people from protesting within 300 feet of a funeral or memorial service. The Senate version would also keep protesters from being within earshot of grieving friends and family members.

Richard Wilbur, a retired police detective, said his Indiana Patriot Guard group only comes to funerals if invited by family. He said he has no problem with protests against the war but sees no place for objectors at a family's final goodbye to a soldier.

"No one deserves this," he said.

As a Air Force Security Forces SSGT, I have been to Iraq 4 times and one of the things that helps me get thru my deployments is closing my eyes and picturing everyone back in the states living their lives, having BBQ's, fishing, just whatever they enjoy and know that they can sleep safe at night because of what the United States Armed Forces are doing in Southwest Asia. Fu*k those pieces of SH*T. Lets take their asses to the triangle of death and see if " god keeps them safe" ...D*ckheads... Ok I feel passionate about this subject!!!

I posted a link to their site a while back... the patriot guard... and though i can see where Gman is comming from (and would probably be sitting in the cell beside him)they're only there to show their respect to the fallen vet. nothing more... they're not there to be a bodyguards... just to show the family that the nation is gratefull...

Personally I served on the Honor Guard at Beale AFB... and in 2 years provided services to over 150 fallen vets. some retired, some active duty, not once did I encounter anything but the upmost respect. I can't imagine someone no matter how outragious their view thinking that a funeral is a ok place to make a statement?!

I guess it's just a sign of how far society has slipped:2cents: :disapp:

Patriot Gaurd Riders - worthwhile cause

OK, so hopefully I'm not treading on anyone's toes, and if I am ... well... sorry.

Has anyone caught the CNN article, linked : http://www.cnn.com/2006/US/03/06/btsc.lavandrera.funerals/index.html

At anyrate, the short of it is this: Some flake by the name of Fred Phelps is picketing and protesting the funerals of fallen soldiers, on the grounds that they are supporting and defending a country that harbors gays and lesbians. Ok, personal beliefs about homosexualality aside, protesting during this peaceful and sorrowful time of the families is just plain wrong.

The article goes on to describe the Patriot Gaurd Riders, which is a group of (generally speaking) vets that have taken it upon themselves to protect the families of fallen soldiers from the protests by these freaks...

At any rate, after doing some quick digging, I found thier website, with registration information. Each state appears to have their own captain coordinating rides with the funeral services. While it might not be worth it to anyone else, I just had to share the story.

The PGR can be found here: http://patriotguard.org/

just my :2cents:

Sorry Ebbs.. I did a quick search for Patriot Gaurd, and nothing returned. Guess I should have been more detailed in my search. Could you share a link to the original thread?

When a local soldier lost his life, the city where his funeral was to take place passed a new ordinance. Those seeking permits to express their freedom of speech during funeral processions were allowed to do so only at the local landfill. Legally it would never stand, but by the time it ever made it to court the funeral would be over.

Crazy Religious Cult protest war funerals

I think something was posted about this awhile back about bikers helping protect lost soldiers families from idiot picketeers, but I got a little more info.

I was listening to Sean Hannity's radio show and caught this story. I know some of you are political, but let's leave that out of this post, because even if you are left or right you should agree these people should be stopped.

This group of so called "christians" goes around the country picketing soldiers funerals with signs that read "thank god for dead soldiers" and "thank god for IEDs." I don't know something in me just wants to do something about this and I am very angry. I will be stand against them with an American flag if they try to protest anywhere near my town. Maybe you guys can think of something better that we can do, because I know we have a lot of servicemen and women on this board who deserve a whole let better for their families then to have these whackjobs pouring salt on the families wounds.

I don't think I can post their true website address because the language censor might catch it, but here is something you can do to check out where they are going next if you want to cause them some trouble.

There regular website is

If this doesn't make you violently ill, then you are a sick individual.

I will understand Shan if you want to delete this, because this is a very touch subject. I just wanted to let you guys know, because I would want to know if someone was doing this to my friends and family.
