"As children, we would ride in cars with no seatbelts or air bags."
Waaaaay back in the day, when I was 3yrs old, there were no laws on kids being in car seats or seat belts. My mom and I were driving along and I was standing up in the front seat.
A 16 yr old ran through a stop sign and slammed into the passenger side of the car. At that moment, had my mom not thrown her arm over and pushed me back, I would have went throught the windshield. Scary thought. I am very glad to this day, they have strict laws about that.
