Yesterday I got my bike up to 153mph in 5th gear just at redline...

given the temp was only 45 degrees... and a little windy.

what would you say i would gain with the remaining 6th gear?? and maybe the spring temps of 65-70 degrees??

GSXR600??? Some bikes actually are faster in 5th then 6th. but the gixxer 600.... assuming a '03+.. if its actually level ground and all, maybe 10 more.. but it depends on mods too, and as far as colder weather...it'll give ya more air available so running it in colder temps will actually make more power... 160 for a 600 SS bike with exhaust a pc3 and filter is gonna be about all youll get on level ground.

Another 10-15 mph is probably a good estimate. It all depenes on rider size and weight, wind and road conditions, etc. With me on it my F4i runs out of breath at about 160-ish

its an 05 (in my signature)

never heard of a bike being faster in 5th though....

some cars are faster in 5th than 6th but thats because 6th is setup as a 2nd overdrive for gas mileage....bikes do not require that feature.

So if you were already going that fast why don't you just up the gear and twist on? You'll find out in a few seconds after that!

the Sv650 and the EX500 are both examples of bikes that power out in 6th at a lower speed then they top in 5th at.

Every 600 I've have had is useless in sixth gear. The time it takes to get that extra li'll bit more speed the bike is capable of is just to long to justify. Most cases on top speed runs, I found my self shifting back in to fifth just to maintain on a very slight grade.

yea..i would disagree that 6th is a waste....if this bike is done at 150mph...im trading it in next week....i really would like to see 160 or more on a non-windy day with the room to try for sixth...a 2005 gixxer 600 done at 150-151...come on...i was expecting 160-165.

ill let you know how i make out....as soon as spring comes at least...lol

not much i can do about it now....we have about an inch on the ground and its 30 degrees. im waiting for a 50 degree day to try again.

my z1000 is same with aeros, 6th is useful, since it hits the rev limiter...doesnt power out at all. but itso nly geared for 164mph. Though u ever held on to a naked bike at 164? Feels bout like trying to hold a telephone pull while hurricane katrina goes by.

Liter bikes are a little different. That extra torque and hp just don't seem to give up till the engine is just out of rpm's. The 6's are move like small block hot rod cars. Capable off near the same fetes as their big brothers. Just takes longer to pull it off and falling short on top end.
Most all 6's (in my opinion) 6th gear is more of an overdrive. You can make use of the extra gear if your willing to hold it long enough in the right conditions.

You'll get 160 in 6th, it just takes a while. My R6 takes about a second, second and a half to gain a mph around 157-158. It gains but it just takes a while. Your bike will proly do the same.

99birdv6 has topped 160 on his RR...more than once...the bee has struggled to 150 with my fat arse on it...bring it down here...we have a couple of places where you can run WOT for 12 to 15 miles and you can see what it will do...
