I'll admit, I ran some penzoil thru my 81 Yamaha Maxim already, and didnt notice much problems, but then again, I didnt ride it very hard on a normal basis, as far as revving it up, quick starts & stops etc..
But would I run it in my Kat, oh hell no! I havent had to change the oil yet in her, which will be coming up in the next month or 2 when I winterize her

Gee, I've heard this question before from a WOS member with a g/f riding.
As I said then, NO WAY! Take a quart of car oil and MC oil and look at the label. The API Service codes are different. This is a easy way to show some of the differences.
A quart of CAR Mobil oil: API Service: SL,SJ,SH,SG
A quart of KawaChem MC oil: API Service: SJ,SH,SG,FM
A quart of Amsoil MC: API Service: SH,SG,CF
The other importance to note. The Kaw MC oil hass K-77 additive to extended the life of the oil due to the MC clutch and tranny's using the same oil. In your car that isn't the case. The car oil, just isn't designed to be used with wet clutches.
Another funny note. No where on the Mobil car oil does it say anything about using it in a MC. It does says car, van and light truck, but no MC.

I don't like to get into this and my opinion is no way anything more than anybody elses. My knowledge on petro is purely based in the fuels. I don't deal with oil persay.
I have started to use Amsoil in my MC. Now another great brand is Golden Spectro. They make a full line of synthetic and non-synthetic oil. They even make about every other fluid you would need for your MC. I currently am also running Golden Spectro's anti-freeze in my 9R. It's good stuff and seems to run alot cooler. It's alot like Engine Ice.
Also, I was only listing the API's to show some more obvious differences. Mostly those catagories are only to specify years of vechicles.
Furthermore, I found a website that has ALOT of info on this exact thing.

I've heard alot of good stuff about Amsoil..theres a local rep around here and he sells the stuff like mad..but never tried it myself, might have to consider that! Thanks !

They say with Amsoil, that you put it in your MC in the spring, change the filter (not the oil, just the filter)half way through the season and top it off. Then a complete change at the end of the season or how ever you would normally do it for winterizing.
That was my game plan but certain bike repairs conflicted with that, causing oil changes during the season. O well, I guess it's better that way.

Why wouldnt you wanna change the oil too, if your changing the filter? does it really run that clean that you dont have to ?

That's what they say! The Amsoil rep has a F350 Diesel truck with like 300K on the clock with the original Amsoil oil in it. As in take new truck home, change oil to amsoil and don't change again. I guess he changes the filter every so many miles and sends out a sample of the oil to be tested for break down. Everytime it only looses like a fraction of a percent.
Like I said, that's what they said. I was going to try it this year but the repairs didn't let me....

gotcha! thanks! I dont know if I can stomach not changing the oil everytime I change the filter, I think I'd worry too much since Im so used to doing it the traditional way..but times are changing I suppose..couldnt hurt to try this in the spring though! I just might give it shot, but you know I'll be watching it even closer than I do now, to see how it good it really is for myself.

I run amsoil too. That would get costly if you changed oil everytime you changed your filter. amsoil isn't cheap

So if you read Gas Man's web site about the oil testing, the automotive Mobile 1 beat the motorcycle oils in viscosity retention. Actually, the automotive Castrol GTX, which I've been using in all my vehicles for many years, beat the motorcycle oils. I'm sure viscosity retention is important, but changing the oil every 3,000 is probably more important to get rid of the acids, dirt and gas.

I run nothing but the same Valvoline in my car and bike. The R6 has some Maxlife in it right now, only because I had a few quarts laying around and didn't want to buy regular all climate. When I change it again I will put regular oil right back in it. Amsoil is for suckers - let's see $8 per quart or $1.49 per quart. ALWAYS have run Valvoline in every bike, car and truck I have ever owned and I have had ZERO problems. So go waste your money if you like and read the f'ing label real through like or do whatever - throw some crap out there for me, I DON'T CARE - I physically have witnessed stronger cleaner running engines with Valvoline.
My neighbor rides a Harley more miles a year than probably all of us combined here - what does he use? Valvoline car oil. Now please note it is a Harley and has to be repaired frequently - but as far as engine / oil related problems on his bike - ZERO.
