Ok, which would you choose and WHY?

As most of you already know, I have an R6 but I'm looking into trading it up. I know a guy that was looking at a RC51 or the R1 but said that the R1 is lighter and has more horsepower.

So which do you choose and why?

R1 No Doubt about it? :dthumb:

Didnt you already have a hard time getting your R6 out of the way once. A bigger bike isnt the answer! :2cents:
It might not have been you that started the "first time"

You need to specify year differences. Are you talking about both brand new 05/06 machines?

On a side note, if you are open to used bikes, I know where a pristine 05 R1 is for sale, all stock, and I know where a pristine 01/02 RC w/ a TON of top-notch mods is for sale. You would, however, have to be open to making a trip to PA. Believe me when I say that the RC would be worth the trip, but you could probably find an R1 for about the same price a little closer to you. The owner of the RC has ~$16000 invested, w/ ~8k miles on the bike, and wants $8500. The bike is immaculate, never down, only 1 trip to the track, and owned by a 45-year-old man who works at a local bike/atv/pwc etc. store, Twigg Cycles in Hagerstown, MD. Worth the trip if you are interested I can get you more information.

I think the R1 would be a better choice if you want a lot of power at your disposal throughout the powerband. The RC51 I don't think is in the same category as the R1. The CBR1000 is actually faster than the RC51. The RC51 is more of a track bike: Power is in much higher rpms and sharper handling as oppose to the R1.

Between the two I could choose the RC51 hands down.

Tough call... it's all in what you want and as Roach said... what years are we talking about... that would make a difference in my eyes!

Roach,

I'm thinkin' about the brand new ones. The 06 RC51 has no changes from the 05 that I have heard of, except for the paint scheme.

Yeah, I dropped the 05 R6 but it wasn't bad. Only $400 bucks worth of damage but my girlfriend wants the bike so she'll probably get that one and I'll get the litre bike. I like the R1 but if I stick to anything that is a very common litre bike, it'd probably be the CBR1000RR. I'm not really looking for like overall speed, I'd like to own a bike that is not very common on the street. That's just me.

But when I was looking, the dealer told me that the most they'd give me for a trade-in on the 2005 R6 with 3K on it was $4000 MAX! I thought that was a little crazy since it is paid off and I know they'll turn around and put a $7000 price tag on it.

Anyways, keep 'em coming with the input, everyone knows that I like the input from everyone.

But the last couple years R1 with the undertail exhaust is about one of the sexiest bikes out!

But Graff, you just start riding and haven't made it through one season on the R6. Why are you upgrading to a liter bike? In my, worthless POV, it is too soon. I stayed on a EX500 for 3 years before upgrading to a liter bike and it didn't have the growing range of a R6... just something I noticed and of coarse my :2cents:

In a nut shell, what difference does all of that power make?
Do you plan to race it? If not you will never use either one to its full potential to know if you ever got the more powerfull one or not. It to me seems like it is a matter of what you like as for style. They will both perform well in normal everyday street use. Your trying to compare two top fuel dragsters to the 60 foot mark. No difference.
There is no doubt which bike is built and designed better.
Every magazine cant say enough about the R1. And any one with the R6 would know that already. Your Girlfreind must be quite a rider herself to want your R6. Does she "really " ride or has she just riden once before? Have you ever seen any one panic and just hold the gas wide open? Just for your info The R1 has been suggested to run 100mph in fist gear. My FZ1 will pull the front wheel up at 60mph in first on its own twist of the gas. I do believe the R1 mythe. Just be ready and be carefull. :2cents:
