i got my new front springs in today. I'm stocked... Now im debating weather to just pay the shop to put em in or to buy a front stand and do it myself... its gonna be a hell of a job for someone who doesnt know anything about the internals. But eitehr way im happy.. another week or two and ill have my Free street design tail too, the bike is gonna be nice and ready for this spring riding season.

How long does it take to lift the front up, pull the forks, respring and oil em and reinstall on inverted cartridge forks?

It should take a few hours for somebody that knows what they are doing.

so does that mean me (being mechanical decent, not challenged but not great) it will be 8 hours.. or it will be 8 hours beofre i give up and ask the shop to put my forks back together?

If you have a manual and tools. Id give you self a whole day to mess with it. Not much to screw up if you keep everything very clean. You probably could get a shop to do it cheap if you take the forks off.

I'd say if you have a mechanical idea of how stuff works and you have a really good diagram you should be straight. It doesn't seem that long while you're doing it anyway...unless something breaks.:cursin:

It took around 30 mins to do after the forks were taken off the bike. Its real simple. I think shops like to make it harder that it sounds to take your money.

the shop im gonna have do it if i do said its a really easy job and that they wouldnt charge much, they seem really good, charge less then anyone else in town to mount and balance a tire u didnt buy from them too... 20$, so i may let them do it, gonna go price it and then decide.

Like Twisty says, it's easy after the forks are off the bike. That quoted price may be for bringing the forks to them. Jacking up the bike, taking the wheel and fender off, hanging the calipers, taking the fairing off to get to the fork pinch bolts, and laying the handlebars on the tank are probably not included in the price or time. And don't forget to just loosen the fork cap while the fork is still attached to the bike.

one advantage is no fairings to have to take off. Hell i may have them do it just cuz then i can go do something else during that time, like go watch a movie instead.

no clue yet, havent been by, no time last week. Im gonna get a price off bike and on, depending on the diff i might take em off but only if its enough to justify spending another 100$ on a front end stand.... I just cant trust the tie downs to the rafters on my garage to hold all day.

ya i really want it for tire changes since it saves 10$ a change to bring a shop the rim vs the bike. I want one just not so sure im gonna have the money since i think im gonna owe on my taxes this year... damn IRS.

Pick up some Redline stands... about $100 for both stands and they work well enough. Never had a problem with mine.

He will need a triple tree stand to remove the forks.

I used my rear stand and a hydraulic car jack witha piece of wood under the motor. Worked great!

Been there done that. :lol:
He said originally, he didn't want to strap it to the rafters. Doing that and combination of jack on motor would be the cheapest solution.

Personally, I don't know how I survived with out a triple tree stand for so many years.
