Radar Detectors

Found this on another site, and wanted to your opinions as well...

So what's out there as far as bikes go? Is there a radar detector that is specifically made for bikes at all, like you can get for a car?

I heard that there is one that will just just make the police's radar gun read "0," anyone heard of this?

If anyone finds out which one out there makes the radar gun read "0" let me know as well. Now thats one I will buy. hehehe :D
Yeah, it's a radar jammer!!
Good luck evading speed enforcement devices. The technology varies from municipality to municipality. Some departments can't afford anything other than the old X/Y band, most use LIDAR now but you never know.

It only takes a second for a laser to beam out and back and they have sights on them so they know they hitting you.

I can't speak to the effectiveness of jammers. :devilange
Yeah that radar jammer is bad ass - what it does is it sends a scrambled signal back to the radar gun of the cop and therefore it confuses the gun and won't get a reading.. Of course two problems: 1. It is not made for a bike and would have to be hardwired 2. It is illegal and if you are going fast enough they will just pace you anyways

I went oodles of sites on radar detectors and talked to a guy in Canton about it (Electronic Connection). There is one made specifically for bikes - I forget the make and model - that takes batteries and has a headset for an audible warning as well as a scope that hangs out of your pocket. According to him it wasn't all that good and only worked to the front not 360. I never bought it though. When I have the extra cash I am buying a good one and working on a mount and I will hardwire it. I speed way too much not to have one.

Windy has a bad ass mount on his Kaw. I wish I could do that on the R6 but it has a digital speedo and his mount would block it.

Oh yeah, forgot to mention... Radar & Laser isn't the only way to get a speeding ticket. Air traffic timing between two known points, pacing and visual speed estimation call all land you a ticket.

AND... it's almost always possible to write additional citations even if you're not found at fault in court for the inital speeding violation.

Now are you talking guesstimate as, they pace you and say you were going 45 mph, based on their speed..or guesstimate as in , you drive past them while they are pulled over, and they guessimate how fast you were going?

FYI side note...some call me Windy...

Anyway, yes I have a RD mounted on my dash. Sits just left of the speedo. That way everytime I look at the speedo I see the radar detector. It works okay. Yes, you have to hard wire it to your battery. No biggie there, the one in my car and truck are hard wired as well.

They do make a radar detector for cars that has a very small display unit and the front and rear sensons are seperate and small enough to mount in the front of your radiator. I think it is a Bel or Whistler. Cost about $300 or so. I've seen it in a buddy's car. WAY COOL!!! :bike:
If your looking for mounts and such like that try Radarbusters.com they got a lot of stuff for bikes.:2cents:

Both from my research. I got my last ticket from this. It's bull but they can get away with it.

I've thought about radar detectors but I have yet to be caught by a cop sitting on the side of the road (yet I've got 6 points on my liscense) so I don't think it would help me. I think the best way to avoid tickets is to learn to see cops before they see you, for the most part it has worked for me but it takes a lot of attention.

I happen to know that around here most speeding tickets are not the result of traditional radars. Speed cameras, radar vans and such take up a good chunk of the tickets and I have yet to see a detector that works with those.
If the cop cant read your speed he'll just write you for wreckless driving. The cops have a way around every thing (they write the laws that way for a reason) and it comes down to your word against theirs and we all know how far that gets you. I wouldn't waste the money on a radar detector/jammer.

You have 2 ways to beat a ticket: #1 Run and don't get caught or #2 pull over and be as friendly and honest as you can possibly be... I would suggest #2 :2cents:

:withstupi: Two of my uncles were cops and some of my customers at the car parts place I worked at. They will get you for something if you give them the opportunity.

Yeah I know, but I only thought to look at the date after I posted a reply. You guys are always saying "Use the search button, before you post anything?" So I did.
