So I am riding home around 1AM nobody in sight. :moped: I hit this long curve and straighten out of it about 1 mile away from home. All of a sudden I have a power surge, so instinctivly I give it more gas to see whats the deal, an odd delay and the bike finally picks up. Then it starts to sputter. At this point I figured it was either the carbs, or Im running out of gas. Then, the bike just dies. I coast to a private street, turn the gas knob to reserve, and try to fire it up. No luck. The tank is bone dry....I am a mile away from gas and my house, so walking the bike seems daunting enough...plus I was in no mood to do so...frustrated and embarrassed, I call the girlfriend for help. While I am waiting for her to show up with gas, I look at the Trip and it says 35.5 miles :yikes: Tehn I remembered I had 75 miles before I had to disconnect battery for charging, then a 20 miles or so later for wiring purposes, and I think once before that for other purposes. So my trip reading was a bogus reading, and since there is no fuel gage, I go off that. she arrives with a gallon of gas. A minute later of throttle and ignition, it finally starts up. I go to the local station to fill her up. That was one of the more embarrassing momments on my bike so far. I felt really retarded, especially when a group of bikes rode past and waved. I just wanted to :leaving:

So, anyone else ever do something like that? :bonk:

i've come really close to running outta gas before. luckily i have a low fuel light that i keep my eye on. when that lights up i stop right away (that is if i haven't been paying attention to my mileage either). it totally sucks not having a gas gauge. what's up with that?! it's not like they can't fit one on it somewhere. is there any way to put an aftermarket gas gauge on a bike with none?

i used to do that all the time on one of my old bikes without a gauge or warning light. Id shake the bike around and listen to how much was in there. But id forget and run out. Sometimes id buy a gas can at the station. needless to say, i had alot of gas cans left over at my apt. Usually i was broke so when i couldnt afford gas and a can, id find a plastic cup, walk to a gas station and fill up the cup. Good times good times.

Well Snade...I have done that before and to make it worse it was at the track and I had to push my bike back to the pit. Mine too was due to a in-accurate trip... Another great reason for my screen name. But all I had to do is switch it to reserve and it fired right up... oh well... we all have our moments.... it's funny later in life... you can just sit back :nonod: and

So did you have it on reserve the entire time? I have heard of people doing this and I have almost did this before as well. Or your other fuel pick up (reserve) is clogged or somin...

Been there and done that.....I have a fuel gauge on my 6E but not on my 7R, so running out of gas is a concern for me. So far, I've only had to hit reserve once on the 7. However, I have funny story........

Years ago, many years ago, before my wife and I were married, I ran out of gas in my 90 something escort on Xmas eve.... The wife, then girlfriend, stayed at my crib until it was time to take her back to the westside (Detroit).... I knew my gas guage was faulty but figured WTF....Well, out of gas and walking to gas station in sweat pants totally freezing my a$$ off (after I dropped her off), the attendant had no sympathy and actually was only willing to give me 50 cent of free gas... That sh!t don't feel the tank.....In any event, it all worked out (wifey had to come back out) and I'm feeling a little typsie drinking ths cognac right now but feel I needed to share that story.........

If you're from the ATL, pm me....I am looking for the hot spots......I'll be down there with two of my boys 10/20 for Morehouse's homecoming.......

cant believe the other bikers didnt stop?? but then again would u have wanted them too, then having to tell them why u were on the side of the road.

I would rather hear it from my lady then the guys on bikes. I wish there was a fuel gage or even a low fuel light on the bike, but I dont think there is. Oh, well, Ill just go by mileage. As far as my reserve tank goes, either its clogged or it was bone dry to begin with. I shook the tank and heard nothing at all. I am going to ask the really dumb question and ask if the tank should I be filling the tank differently? I have the gas switch on "ON" and fill up. But that does suck running out of gas in the middle of a race....

Use your trip odometer...

I've come really close base upon my tank size and how many gallons it took to fill up. It onyl happened once and I was with another rider. BUT, I was in the middle of the desert so I would have been screwed. :help:

I've done it before snadamo..I wasn't on the SV tho, I ran out of gas before I bought the SV. I was on my dad's big Intruder when the thing started to clunk out on me. I was freakin out at first because I was on a 2 lane road with no where to pull over. The worse feeling was my dad didn't know I was on his bike. There was no fuel gauge to go by and I had no clue how many miles I could go on the trip odometer. I stopped in the middle of the road and waived people to pass. I switched the tank to reserve and hauled @ss to a gas station. Then I got the Intruder home like I never took it out.
