Do u use rear sets, and if so why did you install em, what brand and how much did u spend?



I think imgonna get a set, and mostly to move the pegs farther back and up cuz as it is now i find i only hold my toe on the pegs cuz i dont like em that far forward and low. Plus they drop like 2 lbs. Trying to get the ride ready weight under 400lbs... i htink that would put me really close.

I have used Graves, Gilles and Vortex rear sets in the past.
Honestly,
I wouldn't waste the money unless that little adjustment for comfort is really as important as you think.
Sure, there a little lighter and adjustable. Look pretty cool also. In reality, they are very expensive and break easily. If you drop your bike in the driveway or something like that. You run a high risk of breaking the peg off. Most I have seen have replicable parts but, the pegs are mounted solid unlike factory ones.

I would recommend spending your $200 to $1000 on parts like suspension.

well i plan on doing a spring kit for the front suspension, but i really ride long distance enough and enough hours a week on the bike during season that i thik itll be worth the 200$... especially since im prob gonna get em for Christmas for free.. Found a nice set for 171 beofre tax and shipping.. and ill keep the factories if i need em later.. so i may do it.

I totally agree with Jeeps. For anything but the track (not the strip) they would most likely be useless!

its just a matter of comfort for me... 2lbs off the bike will help a bit.. unnoticable but it will..lol But comfy for long trips will be great... i hate the position the facotry ones are in... the make my knees hurt to keep em like that..... and if i have both rearsets i can change accordingly. But i cna do the Racetech gold valves for 99$ from kneedraggers.. so may do those on top of rear sets and NOS and call those mods along with building my wheelie bar good for the winter.. should be able to go in spring and ride farther nad faster, plus hopefully run a 10.5 or better at elevation.

I'm not sure what kind of adjustment your looking for. Rear set usual push the peg further back and higher. That tends to make'm more uncomfortable to me. :2cents:

On long rides, I would put my feet on the passenger pegs. But that was on my old naked Suzuki, and I was much younger then. I don't think my back could take too much of that now.

on the Z1000, being naked, the pegs are way low and forward as is... the rear sets.. would make em about the same position as a 1000ss supersport bike... which i thoght are all comfy... more comfy then mine.. except the low clip ons... so since i have handlebars that are up aobut two inches.. i think the rear sets on the Z WILL add comfort AND safety... since ill keep my whole foot on the peg rahter then the tips of my toes.. and when it comes to touring, ill lay on the tail, or put my legs over the tank and the blinkers and radiator shrouds hold my feet there.. so gettign em forward isnt hard.

I got them on my street bikes along with race bikes. I keep dragging the pegs on the clover leafs and @ the gap.

Twisty... does a good suspension add to the level of confidence ot corner that hard, or u think you could do it half as fast on crate set suspension? I'm looking at chanigng my front spring rate this winter and the rear by end of spring i hope next year... Will that make me much more comfortable getitng low? cuz scraping pegs one up now makes me nervous.. but not if i have a passenger on.. so im hoping suspension gives me that confidence to do it then.

As long as the suspension is setup for you. Like the sag is set and you got the right springs in the forks. Also the shock spring in the back has to right for weight too. The stock suspension can work for you just fine but it has to be tuned right.

My GSXR 1000 has stock suspension but it setup for me. So I have tons of condifence in it and never have to 2nd guess myself.

So if your just going to ride on the street your looking @ spending around 250 to 300 bucks. For the springs and someone to tune the suspension after you put the parts in. Which are a breeze. It took me about 2 hours to rebuild my forks and Im going to rebuild my shock this winter myself. If you have the manual for your bike it is a cakewalk.

im ognna respring my front, i jsut dont know what i need for tools....

the Rear i htink ill order it set for my weight and bike by a place that speciallizes in Z1000 stuff... have them send me one tuned in.

Changing fork springs require new fork seals? and what kinda tools? Im gonna go nice and stiff up front to try to prevent diving under hard braking and two up riding.... then the rear i can prob jsut have soemone set it up for me.. set sag and preload and im probalby ok there...

But form the crate.. untouched... did it feel less confident?

I just have basic tools. Some sockets, pliers, and some fork oil. No seals needed unless they are leaking.

I would use racetech. They are great company and the website is the best. If you need any help just let me know. They should have your rear spring too.

Yeah from the crate any bike is going to feel unconfident. Its not setup for you out of the box.

yeah racetechs stiffest spring (for the Z1000) was my plan for the forks.. at 98$ cant go wrong, gonna go stiff in front for two up riding and spring time track days i hope.

Ill have ot see what they charge for the rear spring... but im not sure i need a stiffer spring in the back, its already gotta stiffer spring then a Zx10R.... so i think it just needs to be adjusted for me.

man no wonder the rear feels brutal... its stock design optimum for a 275lb Rider on the spring rate... JEESE. guess that makes it aobut right for with a passenger... or closer at least, why i feel so confident with it.

And does re springing.. without revlaving still make a big diff?

Oh yeah, it will make huge difference. Revalving is not really needed for the street.

cool ill just resporing the front and try to work with that back.. if i cant get it feeling right with stock spring then ill go ahead and change it out later too.

I'm sure Twisty will agree, just changing out that crappy stock "fish oil" that they put in the forks will change the way the forks react and feel!
