I am thinking of buying a TL-R. I had a 98 GSXR 600 but sold it for tuition. I have two friends with 01 R1's and want to start riding again. I like the TL-R looks alot and the fact that nobody has one. What do yall think. Good and bad reviews wanted. I know it is a bit on the heavy side but i really like the idea of a V-twin.

Has anybody owned one and got rid of it because they didnt like it or does any one own one and love it? How does it stack up against he R1 or GSX1000R? Opions wanted.

Heavy? :wtf: It's down right massive!!! How does it stack up against a R1 or GSXR 1K? It is this way....you could stack up both of them and still not weigh the same!! :lol:

First welcome to TWF.

I have owned a TL-R and like it very much. It was a great bike except for the weight. The GSXR is much lighter and faster. Remember that it is a V-twin bike and nothing like the R1 or 1000gixxer. What year are you looking for??

I say awesome choice. V-twins make all of the IL4's seem sooo boring!!! The feel, the sound, the torque at your fingertips anywhere in the rev range... :drool:

:iagree: Torque, Torque, Torque..... yeah maybe a little heavy but, how many guys really ride their bikes to the limits anyways....and they sound

I say go for it! Not a lot out there, and you definatly would stand out. Rider skill could make up for most of the performance differences between the tl-r and the r1/gsxr. On the street anyway.

I would love to own one of them, i've had a poster of a tl-r on my wall since 99. And still oogle it every once in a while

Awesome bike !! They are classic beasts and you'd be hard pressed to find anyone who has owned one, that has anything bad to say about them, other than the weight!

Mostly I just dont want my friends to run away from me on the street in a strait line. Im a better rider then both of them throght the turns. I will mostly be riding on the street ( by street i mean quick trips on the free, not stop light traffic.) I have a truck for daily driver.

Looking at a 2000 or newer. Trying to find one at a dealer i can finance in the central texas area, still looking.

I don't think they even compare together. The TL vs the R1 or Gixxer1000. No chance. It should be a no brainer there for you. But its going to be your bike so you will make the choice you want and have to ride it. Not us. good luck on your new bike.

I wouldnt talk so bad about the V's my little friend. I had a TLS that would smoke the sh!t out of a R1 and 929. I did have 5k worth of motorwork but it was untouchable. It would run with Gixxer 1000 up to 170mph. There about 8 on this board that have seen this freak nature in action. Inline 4's would run and hide from twin. Harleys out pee themself, Duc would well breakdown in its sight. Dont not mock the Twins when it comes to digging them self out of corner with their touque no 4 can hold there against them.

The twins's shall rise again!!!

Well I wasn't trying to put them down. And with you saying that you dumped 5k in it, that explains it right there. Take a TL out of the showroom and an R1 or Gixxer1000 and you know it will not be able to do what yours did with the extra 5k added. The R1 and or Gixxer will beat it no question.

Twisty's TLS was a BEAST but I'm not much of a twin!! Let's talk about durability... the TLS was down like 20 times and was never in that bad shape!!!

It was kinda like free money for suzuki. I blew the motor in the first 1500 miles. So the dealer hooked me up with T-TWO pak.

I love the TLR. It is a great bike. You will love the TQ and the sound. I will admit that it is heavy. Remember that this bike never saw a development update. It wasn't changed from its introduction in 98 to its demise in 03 so you can't really expect it to be as fast or as light as the new machines. I am on my second one. My first one had 25K miles on it when I totaled it. I went right out and bought another one. If you want the fastest, lightest bike out there then stay away from the TL. If you want something that is extremely fun to ride and will get looks when you drive by, go for the TL. If you want more info go here: http://www.tlplanet.com
