Biker runs light and rams cop car in Qns.

Body of motorcyclist lies covered by white sheet near his wrecked Suzuki speed bike and helmet as police inspect the scene at Queens Blvd. and 71st Road, in Woodside, early yesterday.

A motorcyclist on a bike built for speed died early yesterday after he zoomed through a red light and crashed into a police car, cops said.
The rider was speeding west on Queens Blvd. when he blew a light at the corner of 71st Road in Woodside and hit the cruiser's rear passenger door at 1:30 a.m., police said.

The 31-year-old motorcyclist, who was on a powerful Japanese Suzuki speed bike, died on the spot, cops said.

Witnesses told cops that the man sped through a red light - with one saying he appeared to be going as fast as 100 mph.

Two 112th Precinct cops were hurt in yesterday's crash and taken in stable condition to Jamaica Hospital.

The cops, whose names were not released, were responding to a "low-priority" call and had no sirens on at the time of the collision, a police source said.

The name of the motorcyclist, who lives in Woodside, was not immediately released, pending notification of family in Puerto Rico.

He belonged to the same age group - 21 to 31 - that dies at the highest rates in motorcycle crashes, according to the latest data by the National Traffic and Highway Safety Administration.

The crash - the latest involving a motorcyclist and a police car - also highlighted the dangers facing cops who patrol streets by car.

On Aug. 4, a 32-year-old riding a high-speed motorcycle slammed into a cruiser that was on its way to a call in Harlem, injuring a sergeant at the wheel.

Motorcycle fatality rates have gone up each year since 1997, and rose 12% between 2002 and 2003, federal statistics show.

Last March, Sgt. Dorian Burrell and rookie Elaine Mamolite were critically injured after a station wagon smashed into their patrol car and pushed it against a city bus.

The cruiser had its lights and siren on when Burrell and Mamolite rushed to a fellow cop's aide through the streets of Ridgewood, Queens.

Their injuries were so severe that Burrell and Mamolite still undergo exhaustive physical therapy to regain full movement of their bodies.

NONE of these statements need to be made..its poor, dumbass, journalism and making a statements like that makes it seems that only suzuki and sportbike riders, are the type of ones that dont ride safe.

that was a load of S for sure. No need to mention bikes as they did.

And i know a guy that was slammed into by a cop car that had no lights or sirens on responding to a call at a high rate of speed. the guy i know was found at fault because the cop said the guy i know ran the stop sign.

I wouldnt be surprised if those cops ran the light and not the biker.

I second that. As if we don't get enough crape for just being on a bike and they have to word it like that. Load of $hit.

Queens blvd is dubbed the (blvd of death) due to all the people mainly elderly who has been killed trying to cross this 10 lane major blvd. Five ohhh has this blvd locked down. 30mph is the speed limit posted everywhere. I was pulled over doing 35 to 40mph. Between lights there no room to even get out of second gear, first even. Dont even think about stuntin. What the HELL was that dude thinking. I LOOVVEE to ride. This stuff gets to me every now and then especially when it's in your back yard. Shake it and ride on.

Amen dog. I could put nitrous on my lawnmower and call it a lawnmower built for speed. What about all the idiots in Mustangs and cars like that? Do we ever hear about them? They are trying to give sportbikes a bad rap. I saw to them - blow me. Absolutely stupid - why not compare how many safe riders vs. how many idiots. I am sure they would find out that they are FAR more safe riders than not - they are just a few bad apples in the bunch. If they did the same with sport cars it would be a different story - I know for a fact fatality rates are very high for corvette owners. Plus how many riders that do this, like the Wisconsin 205mph Honda 100 or whatever are not licensed - this puts them into the category of criminals in the first place - they are breaking the law. So, should we - the legal safe riders, suffer because of their stupidity? I think not. But the media, whom I despise more than anything because they are full of it and that is another discussion, twists and warps people's opinion for their own agendas. I would have to say F**& the media and this idiot that wrote this stupid f'in article. I could go on but very few are reading by now anyways and I have to go drink some whiskey to forget about the stupidity that runs amuck in this world. Thank God for whiskey.

Sad. Why do you think they put in that the officers were responding to a low priority call? Was it questionable on who ran the red?
