I wish some of you lived closer. Today, here in BG, Ky it's going to be 63* and sunny. Of course, I'm taking the bike out. No way would I miss riding in 63* weather in Jan. since the normal high here is about 35*

Yes, I'm going to love being out on the Mistress, like always, but it's lonely always riding by yourself. I don't know about the rest of you, but I'm rather sick of it. I've been basically riding alone for years, only because for 6 yrs the bf (now ex) never "felt comfortable with me riding with guys" like I had much of a choice out here in the land of Hew Haw. Just makes me want to move to a larger city where I can actually ride in a group every now and again.

:sorry: for this pointless thread (like most I start) but sometimes I need to whine about dumb stuff. Now, back to your regularly scheduled thread reading :)

I actually ride bymyself most of the time (by choice)....most of the riders around my area that I've met are still at young, annoying & squidly age (teens to early 20's).

Theres a couple of female riders around....one has a cbr600r the other has a busa (been trying to catch her)not gonna happen in my 600...

This sport definitely needs more female riders fo sure

That's messed up that the ex wouldn't take you with him. I like riding by myself. I don't find it lonely at all. I try not to ride as hard when I'm by myself vs when I'm riding with buddies cuz I don't want to wipe out and no one realize I did. I'd say I proly put abput 10-12K by myself.

I have NEVER had the opportunity to ride in a group!!! In the past I have had dirt bikes, which were off road most of the time, and all the road bikes I have been on were strickly fro transportation, ride to class or work, easy to park. So even though I have been riding for a while I have never rode with a group of bikes. :yikes: I didn't even realize it till now.

Today is warm in Chicago as well, and I doubt I will be able to get out during the day, but I didi get out last night and got about 20 miles in

I spent the better part of 250K riding alone; some of it was good and peaceful, some of it got lonely. I tried a couple group rides a few years ago, and many of the folks that rode sportbikes frankly scared the crap out of me: passing on the double yellow, tailgating slower riders and cagers, showboating, and a lot of crashes....

Today I'm a little more choosy about who I ride with; young is ok, young and stoooopid isn't. Fast is Ok; fast and rude isn't. I have a group of riders I've developed through a couple forums that I'm comfortable with, and everybody's welcome, as long as we're all on the same wavelength and fun is the goal, not bangin' egos. I've been on too many rides where we sat holding a downed rider, waiting for the EMT's, to think that that was fun for anybody.

I had to host a couple of rides in order to get enough people I was comfortable to ride with, and the mix is constantly changing. I normally do have to ride a couple hundred miles to get together with these folks, but the effort is worth it.

Hope you find your group.

I'm very picky about who I chose to ride with these days. When I go ride. I want to ride. Not set at a back woods straight away and watch the kiddies play. Or pick those same kids up out of the ditch because they think they can keep up in the corners.
Luckily most of the guys I ride with on a regular basics range from slow casual rider to fast. When the wife would rider her own. There was always somebody there for her to ride with. If not I would slow down so we both could enjoy the day together. Then she got good enough for me not to mind her tacking off on her own. Those day I would ride my pace and wait up till the next turn just like I did any of the guys.

In closing.
I have rode many miles by myself and foresee many more.

:iagree:

I will say, however, that given the choice betrween riding alone and riding with a group of riders of the same skill or better; I'll chose riding with the group: it's fun to kibbitz at stops, and I always learn something from the better riders. Plus, I'm able to put more miles on without being tired when I ride with another good rider or group.

I do like to ride, though. With or without company.

Jappy, FYI: Two sites that have a lot of GOOD riders in your AREA are:

www.katanariders.com

and, for like minded lady riders

www.femmoto.com
and
www.girlscanride.com

I know a number of good riders in your area on KR (took the place of the now defunct KatanaPlanet).

I got to know my group by planning and hosting a couple of short rides, where we weeded out the dangerous ones, and then put on a couple of weekend rides through the Shanendoas, on up through WV, Western MD and Western PA.

Best wishes.

i can relate to you, jappy. i always usually ride by myself too. i t does get a bit lonely. i am lucky though, i have a girlfriend with a bike that rides with me from time to time. my husband rides too (a harley), but we rarely ride anywhere together. usually we ride completely different days and times. riding alone isn't bad, because i can ride at my own pace and skill level. but it sure would be nice to hook up with some others occasionally (especially ladies). i almost like riding with my hubby and father-in-law because i don't feel like i hafta play catch-up all the time, and i'm not the one bringing up the rear and and keeping everyone waiting. that's what's nice about riding with girls, we have nothing to prove to anyone.

Im a lone rider. Any group rides are spontaneous. Like someone pulling up at the same red light. I like it that way, because if our styles just dont mix, i can take a right when he takes a left, no feelings hurt. But id be nice to have a core of like minded people to ride with on occasion. When my wife learns, it will probably be just us for a while, and thats fine with me.

Riding alone is good, but I actually prefer a small group of two or three I really know and trust.

I like to ride with guys that I know their riding style so well I can actually plan or expect their next move.

And it's nice in case someone breakdowns...safety in small #'s.

I ride alone, mostly, which is the only time I explore the twisties here in MI. I rode with my two cousins and their friend several times last season but all they like to do is hit up the local hangout spots. I did 3 group rides last season as well but it comes down to your preference or what you are in the mood for. My wife rides but does so, so little, that I don't feel comfortable with her riding with anyone but myself at this point. She knows when she rides, it's either alone or with me.
