Read a good article the other day about riding the pace on street rides. This is an old article but it is good. This is something that Jeeps 84 and i practice all the time.Basically it means running a pace that is fast yet in control using very little brake. Here in the mountains it is fun for sure. being in control is the key word in this.

If you want to see fast and in control, try coming down tight and twisty Lookout Mountain behind a bicycle racer. You would be amazed how fast a light bicycle with a high center of gravity and tires less than an inch-wide can corner.

Jeeps84 and dallas116 have the luxury of living in the mountains to have that kind of fun.

Although when I was in his area last year I had a race with a few friends, we started at the top of a mountain with the engines off, we had to spiral down the mountain using no engine power and no brakes. I was in the front for a bit, then I got passed by the other two guys, I ended up last. The heaviest bike won.

what I was talking about is riding at a pace that is within your personal limits . without being all over the brakes for the next turn or on the gas in the straight so much that you mess up the natural flow. natural flow being the line that carries you safely thru without crossing the line into on coming traffic which around this neck of the woods will get you killed. fast and smooth go together. as jeeps84 will attest.

:iagree: Smooth is fast and fast is smooth!
That's what we spend our winter months perfecting. With all the salt and sand on the good roads. You have to be smooth just to stay up.
