http://realtytimes.com/rtcpages/20040622_sfbayarea.htm Its called supply and demand  People want to live here prices go up
500K will get you 1500 foot dump in the hood of Oakland
That's why I live here. Over 2400 Ft2 for under 100K. 500K would not buy my farm in Ill, and it generates me close to 30K per year in income. It appears a home in Northern Kali is just not a very good investment. Probably why you live there

WHen I lived in Phoenix, there is/was and exodus of people from SoCal to Phoenix. They'd sell their 1500 Sq Ft. homes for $1.2 million and but a 6000 sq ft mansion in Scottsdale for $1 million and have money to spare.

Wealth is relative.

If you call doubling your house value every 3 to 4 years bad investment so be it
Purchased my first home in 1985 1600 FT 3 bedroom which I still own as rental for $65K.
Home prices are all supply and demand  More people want to live in area higher home prices

I'm glad i don't live in that area. I thought $150,000-$175,000 was high.

You can't even get a one bdrm condo in Cal for that price... :puke:

But, if you were lucky enough to own a home more than 10 yrs ago....you now have a small fortune. :dthumb:

WOW... when you say regular, about how big are they sq footage???

I have to say the prices of homes around here aren't too bad. The home we are currently looking into is a 3br 2 bath home. Almost 1600 sq ft @ 145,000.00. Of course the newer homes I would love to have around here are more like 200,000.00 and not quite in my range right now!

WOW... that is outrageous. We are currently living in a 2br 2ba Condo and the cost is between 98,000.00 and 105.000.00 (depending on if the unit has a garage with it, which ours does) THe layout is just over 1200 ft. It is amazing the difference.

You could get about 110 acres of decent farmland, not good, but decent in Illinois for that. Much better investment for the long run. Not affected by ups and downs of real estate markets, fire, or blight. Will pay for itself and then some every year. Money in your pocket. not waiting for some hoped for rise in market valuation, while paying higher taxes every year.

Is this another thread tooting your own horn about "my house is bigger than yours" and "I make more money than you" and "I drive the bestest car" LMAO

Home value in Cali may be high, but so is the per capita income. Usually its all relative. BUt when it falls into the ocean it wont be worth sheet! :bash: :pat:
