Ok, I've decided on Sirius, primarily because of the NHL games. We won't get into the lockout. But, eventually when they play again I'll get the games.

Wal-Mart had one for $145 and there are others out there.

I'd like a portable version, something to take on the boat in the summer move from car to car etc. I don't care too much about an FM modulator versus hard-wiring it directly into a receiver, the key here is portability.

Can someone give me an out-the-door price and suggestion?

Also look into the many places that sell it. I know there was a place in Harrisburg a few months back was giving the systems away for free to get ppl to sign up for it. No need to spend $145 if you don't have to.

Shan, I have Sirius. Mine is portable and I have it in my WRX, but there's just no good place to put it. So, I have it in the glove box and leave it open and change channels with the remote.

If I had to do it again, I'd get one that goes in the dash, without question. Portability would be nice, but there are so many channels, etc, that unless it's right there in the dash, it can become a real distraction when you're driving.

XM is the best....I dont think you will here many NHL games very soon anyway. XM has NFL, NCCA Football and yes Nascar. It has local weather and traffic. Trust me XM is so much better...Dont for get about ESPN radio coming in Feb....internet in Feb also.
A friend has XM and I have Sirius, there's no difference. In fact, the sound quality is better with Sirius.

I'm sorry PigglyWiggly but you wrong Sirius only offers a 9600 bits per sec, XM offers 128000. The higher the better. Also Sirius leases there satellites were XM own 2 ( ROCK and ROLL) I own a healthy amount of their stock, there is nothing I don’t know about there service. I know every station and service they offer. :dthumb:

You might have a better radio but Xm has the better service, also Sirius was down three times years with problems. XM is 100% for the year...

I've had Sirius for two years, never a problem. Mine never breaks up where as friends' XM does quite a bit. To each their own, but it's as pointless as talking about the differences between Dish and Direct TV, they all have their pros and cons.

I prefer Sirius over XM. Yes, I have had the opportunity to use both. I like the lineups on Sirius better. Maybe XM has changed more now that they don't have the commercials, but Sirius plays more of what I want to hear. I never knew XM to have NFL games... I could never find one when I wanted to listen, but I know full well that Sirius does. Only thing XM has going for it is the MLB, but I don't really care about baseball so it doesn't matter to me. As for reception; same, same.

Other than the indash head units, all units are portable. Sirius was the only service to have a personal portable device (built in antenna and battery pack) though that has now changed. XM either just released or will be releasing a true portable soon. Sirius will be releasing another one next summer.

Here's a link to a comparison chart with several of the units on it: http://www.siriusbackstage.com/product_matrix.php. Xact Stream Jockey is the true portable model, but it is still a little bulky and lacking in some areas so I'm waiting for the next generation of receivers to come out. If I wasn't waiting for the true portables to be released, then I'd be getting a Sirius Sportster. That's the model my best friend chose and I really like it's features. Like radar detectors and the like, I'm sure there's a way to wire it into a bike. You just have to buy more "car" kits!

I'm not talking about the differences, I'm telling you with "facts" which one is better. :screwy:

If i wanted to here what you have to say I would have beaten it out of you....

I am looking for one of these for the store, but I am more concerned with stations than anything else, I need something that I can play in a retail environment, something kind of jazzy, swingy, lounge type music, do any of them have a station like that?

I not swearing or comparing. I'm telling you. XM had 10x the customer base as sirius and better sounds.....Hello is there any with a brain that will listen....
Of course they had a larger customer base... they've been around longer! I hadn't heard about the sound quality issue so that is interesting. However, who cares about the sound quality if they don't play what I want to hear? For others it might be a better choice but you have to know what each service offers to make a good decision.

The XM site: http://www.xmradio.com/index.jsp
The Sirius site: http://www.xmradio.com/index.jsp

You can find the programming and the like in there. As far as using it in a business, I think that requires a different type of service contract.
