Frame sliders are one of the cheapest but most important mod you can get. It should be the first mod you do to your bike.

What are they? They are usually made of a strong, very durable plastic or something (not sure of the name. Something like polyuro...something) They are shaped like a cylinder usually around two inches in diameter and varries in length. They bolt to your engone mount holes. Usually a longer bolt is supplied to make up for the length of the slider.

How do they work? Well, in the event of a crash the sliders are the first thing to contact the ground (in most cases) because they stick out so far. They kind of act like a buffer between the ground and your plastics. In some cases it'll save your plastics completely but they're bound to get scratched anyway. But scratched is always better than cracked. There are many different sliders. Here's a few: Bar end sliders, frame sliders, clutch sliders and swingarm sliders. They're designed to protect components on your bike. They are A LOT better than nothing!! They can make a $2,000 crash turn intoa $500 crash.

How much do they run? For a good set (like Vortex- www.vortexracing.com) it'll run you around $70-$80. Small price to pay for one of the most important mods for your bike.

Personally, I'd get a new windscreen (double bubble type) and get rid of that mud flap rear fender, and a tank pad. FYI, if you losen up your clutch perch and rotate in down, it feeld so much better when you're squeezing/releasing the clutch. Then, get some nice steel braided brake lines. What bike do you have?

Its what bike im buying.. Its going to be a Suzuki GSX-R 750 Yellow and black

Word? The sliders are easy to install, then. Sliders are bike specific by the way. I'm suprised no one else chimed in yet, butyeah, those are some of the first mods I'd get. The performance ones can come later. That clutch perch one is very easy and feels so much better when grabbing the clutch.

You mean instead of havign the cluch like a mountine bikes breaking system you move the cluch lever so it is poining slightly on a angle down?

Will do... hey this bike im getting is going to be my first bike.. but now ppl have me thinkin.. Should i be buying this bike.. is it to MUCH power.. im getting a 2001 GSX-R 750 for $4000 canadian ($3423 US).. seems like a sweet deal from my buddy (selling it because he is moving to a new province.. it has also be tipped over when a friend of his was getting off his bike, so it has minor scratches.)

Good prie. The bike will have tons of power for you. TAKE IT VERY EASY. Take it out around the neighborhood or a parking lot. You can't pass up a deal like that. But that bike is capable of 170+. Rescpect the **** out of it. the throttle is gonna be real touchy, so you need to have good wrist control. Practice practice practice!

So it should be great then.. and i think after this season im gonna get the scratches fixed.. buddy says he has a guy who will paint it for $500 if i remove the pieces that need to be painted. How much is a bike like that worth with like 30000KM (18500miles)

You don't really care about advising others to get bikes they probably aren't ready for as long as they are happy, do you dlit? lol

Dude if you don't know what frame sliders are, you should probably work your way back to at least a 600 if not something smaller like a 650 twin or 500. Have you even taken the MSF course yet?

Take it before you buy the bike, how you do in that class will tell you what you need to know about how much bike you can handle. They don't let you use your bike, you use a small dual sport or cruiser. If you pass the class with a 100% practical, then I would recommend a 600, I don't know of anyone that would consider giving a noob a 750.

Get some pics and post them up. 3400 isn't too bad for an '01 750 w/ that mileage.

Nope. People are gonna do what they want. I can only advise them of the risks. You people will try to talk 'em out of it. He doesn't need another person telling him.
Some will actually heed good advice though, I would rather try and talk someone to something suitable, instead of leading them down the primrose path to laying a bike down or worse. You can't save them all, but getting a least one smart biker out there is better then none.

I hate to say it but he is right.. it isnt going to convince someone.. ill just take it easy and learn to ride. My buddies first bike was a 750 CC and he had a bike for 4 years before he had an accedent when a buddy that was ridding behind him decided to do a wheeley and land on him..
