this will prolly get moved to the newbie corner but oh well..
so yesterday was the first time i got to take the bike out for a long ride, (only 60 miles round trip) to work, i stopped by my buddys place to get the keys to his bike, he hands me the insurance and keys i grab the helamt and after checking the oil and such he tells me that he just filled it up on his way to school so i dont check that(important for latter in the story) ... i warm up the bike, and head off down the road. after running the small backroads around the river, i stop off to work 1.5 hours early, there are some nice roads that i have been dying to ride. so about five miles out a country road with a semi behind me i start getting up to speed leaving the ppl behind me. all is well. about a mile later i pass a cop... he turns around.... about this time the bike starts to cut out...?... and the oil light comes on ... so between the cop turning around and the bike stalling and me coming to a coast on the side of the two lane road getting passed by semis and all. as i come to the enevitable stop i start runing through what the hell could go wrong... had oil... let it warm up... could it be that it overheaded already...?maybe the damn gauge is broken so i had no idea...about that time the cops gets to me.... i got off the bike walked up to his car and introduced myself, i think he abot shat himself... he actually extended his hand and asked me what he could do to help?! i told him what happened and that i called my gf to get oil incase i was low for some reason ( idk... the oil light came on, i thought minds well add oil(?) ) he said he would stick around in case i needed help, i let the bike cool down and try again in about five mins, it starts ... i throw on my helmat and gloves and take off, before i got out on the road the cop waves me on and jumps in front of me.. with his lights on... doing about 80-95 down the road.. i had a cop escort, that lasted about 5 miles... oil light came on again, i killed the engine before it startred to cut out, coast to a stop again. cop pulls around again. he tells me he will be patrolling the area if i need anything just flag him down, but i wouldnt need him anymore, gf to the rescue, the cool thing is that as i said on the side of the road everyother car stopped and asked if needed help, a couple highschool girls, a soccer mom and even a biker on a hog...(not all hd riders are ____, u fill in the blank) he sat around and bsed for a bit told me some good places to ride and all, about the time he pulled out my gf pulled in, i checked the oil again, it didnt need any.. :wtf: i kept thinkin what the hell gives, i started off in ON in fuel and changed it to RES with no avail... i dont get it.. i figgered i blew up my buddies bike, im ****ed, for some reason i thought of a time my res valve got blocked and it was clogged... so i sent my gf out for gas as i sat on the sode of the road, a hour late for work...she pulls up, we fill it up....the damn thing started up, :wbs: :wbs: i pulled out and headed off to work .... total time on road 20 mins, total time off road making calls on the cell trying to figger out how retarded i am.... 2.5 hours..... this game has a huge learning curve...

what was the cop originally turning around for? Did he just not want to give you a ticket because you were having bike problems or what?

another thing....dude...never approach a cop car when they pull up behind you.
My little brothers ignorent friend did that one time...the state trooper pulled his gun on him and told him to stop right where he's at and put his hands in the air where he could see them....the state trooper even knew him! It's just a safety precaution for the officers sake. They have no clue what you are doing approaching that cop car.

On my bike, the oil light comes on as soon as you either turn the key, or when the engine shuts off. I wish the cops out here were that cool, but they usually aren't. Sounds like when i ran out of gas, had to call the gf, and a group of riders rode past and waved. I wouldnt have stopped for somebody unless they really waved me down; I just sat there waiting for the gf. But I ran out at about 1:30am and she had an early day. Lets just say she wasnt very happy :disapp:

i talked to some mechanics and they said that the oil light came on because that as the engine was resceving less and less gas the engine was running slower and slower thus lessening the oil pressure, sending the signal that the oil pressure was the problem
