Spped...What makes us all want to go faster and faster???? Who has an answer?

I love to go fast and the faster the better. The speed and the adrenaline I feel as I get the rpm's up and the speed reaching 130+. (Most of the time I will hold it there, I have plenty more to go.) Seeing everything go by so fast is great. Riding fast is a great way to escape from everything and anything. Tell us what does it for you. :)

I honestly try to stay at or near the speed limit...but out on the open road, I let the reins out and let the bee run where it's comfortable, cruising along, not forcing anything...and I look down and its "Holy ****, we're going 95!!" I mean we're only at 8200...we have over 5000 rpm's to go! And the grins just keep coming!!

we discussed this at times in other threads as well...going fast, its just a complete adreline rush, pushing urself and ur partner to the limits, tempting fate, the whole 9.

Yeah its a way to forget about ur problems and get away, but riding hard and fast when ur not in the right frame of mind can lead to bad things.

Alright, I know N4S is waiting for me to cue in here!!!

Um, should I hold me tongue?????

I think not, just wouldn't be my style.

Life doesn't start till you go over about 140 or so. I was just talking to a nonMC buddy of mine today. I was sayin I will cruise down the e-way with one hand at about 100. That is cruisin to me. I usually won't put my left on the bar unless it goes over 130 or a good turn is comin.

Does that mean I'm becoming to complacent (sp?) with the speed??

Actually, speed does little or nothing for me. I don't know why... I just don't get a thrill from it. Even on the track, I'll sometimes not go anywhere near as fast as I could down the straight just because I keep thinking, "What's the point?"

For me it's the thrill of cornering. The mental and physical challenge of setting everything up just right. I love it...

True we have seen this already but we have a lot of new ppl here and wanted to bring it up again and not use the old thread. Very true about not riding in the right frame of mind can be bad but I don't think any of us on here would do that. I am pretty sure we know our limits and would not try to go over them if not ready to. :)

Before we had our son, the faster the better. I was jumping out of airplanes, riding only the highest and fastest rollarcoasters, driving at speeds 90+, you name it. It's a rush, and it gives you the feeling of doing something you're not supposed to. I mean, we follow all these rules with society, family, our jobs, sometimes you just gotta break lose. And sometimes I feel that way too, but once I start watchin the needle move up, or whatever, all at once I get a picture of our son in my head, and I start backin off the gas. I'm not near the risktaker I used to be.....kinda sucks, but I can't help it. Is it just a mother thing?

Speed? I rather just smoke a jibba, J/K. It's just riding that steel horse. Modern day city cowboy. Saddle up and be an outlaw.

No. +1

Cornering is the more fun part of it all for me, anyway.

I love speed but I believe I have a very healthy respect for it as well. I'm more into the torque now and how fast I can get off a line or accelerate to make a pass. There are just too many other people on the road to test speed... not to mention our friends in blue!

Amen cowboy. Mama don't let your chile-drens grow up to be cowboys. Too late for me. Smoke em if you got em and if you got em please share.

Yes Gasman you are getting too complacent. Watch it. I would think the deer incident would have put the fear of God back in you but obviously not. Take it easy.

I have to go along with this line of thinking out on the road. I am not much into drag racing but sometimes I see the faces of cagers in my mirrors when I blow past them at 100 mph. I watch their mouths drop open and the word "D^#n!" come out. Around here, testing the upper limits of the speedo for more than short blasts will get you a visit with the constabulary, and they are pretty harsh with penalties. But sometimes, when I crack the throttle in 2nd gear and push to 11-12,000 rpm before shifting through gears 3 through 6...I feel the bike rise up like it is going to jump off the ground...causes a quick case of the grins!!!

The "Grin" factor...

Hello Everybody.. :seeya:
After reading the posts, and contemplating for a moment, I would have to say, just feeling the initial rush going up thru the gears and reaching the upper limits of the rpm's is what get's my smiles a'popin'. Looking back, every mod done to any thing I own, or have owned, it has always been done to improve my straight line acceleration. Of course, every time I ride in the Blue Ridge mountains of Ga. I come back with a face sore from grinning too much ! I can probably count on one hand the number of times I put the speedo up over 130 and held that speed. But Hey, that's what make's the world go around, right ? Feeling the grips pushing up against my hands, hearing that engine ripping into full cry, while at the same time trying to stay on the bike.... yeah, that's what does it for me !

Passing people makes me go faster. I love passing people on the track.
