hello all, i'm a newbie to this forum. i am an active member in other forums of concentrated topics of discussion, so i'm familiar with how things work here. i'm glad i came across this place, because as i mentioned, i'm a new bike owner. sites like this assist 'newbies' like me, because your advice is "Honest and True", not some sales pitch that some guy at the bike shop might be slinging in order to make a sale.

all that said, here is my situation. i did a search prior to posting and came across only one similar post. it dealt specifically with a kawasaki sticker and whether or not the clear coat had been damaged.

- My question is, i have a stock 05 R1, and i am wanting to remove the stickers on the bike that are not "yamaha" or "R1" stickers, such as the recommended octane sticker on the gas tank, tire air pressure sticker, etc. there are some on the swingarm and gas tank. after reading that thread about the kawasaki sticker and the clear coat, i wanted to ask if anyone knows if the yamaha stickers on the gas tank are underneath the clear coat, and/or if they are safe to remove? :scratch:

i plan on using goo gone and plenty of TLC.

thanks for the link to the thread and the welcome. that is the thread that i had mentioned in my initial question. although a few people mentioned that they thought all newer bikes would have their stickers on the gas tank underneath the clear coat, it didn't specify if all of them did for sure or not. it was still unclear to me.
either way, i plan on doing it on my day off this friday. i'll get a better look at it once i get some more time in order to be sure.

Be ready to spend a little time on it, but you can take them off. I'm not sure how the temperature is where you live, but you may want to think about using a heat gun or hair dryer to warm up the glue on the stickers. Be careful to not get it too hot though and damage the paint surrounding the sticker on the tank. :luck:

your best bet it to use a hair dryer or a heat gun and heat the sticker for about 20 seconds and then begin to peel the corners easily....and keep heating every few seconds....(basically keep adding heat to keep the sticker lifting up easily)...once the sticker is off...use goo gone on the remaining glue streaks and so on.

:iagree: There is no clear coat over those stickers. THe graphics on the tank are under one but I don't think there are graphics on the tank for an 05. The ones on the rest of the bike can be taken off using the same method as the octane stickers and all that.

Yeah like DL said... the Kaw or Suzuki graphics stickers are under clear coat but not those dumb dumb stickers... use a little heat and some Goo Gone. But becarefull with the heat, especialy if you are using a heat gun instead of a hair dryer.

Little advise as others have mentioned. Watch the temp as you heat the stickers. Feel the temp with your fingers till its almost hot and start picking away. There will be two layers. One is clear plastic and the other is normal vinyl sticker. They will separate sometimes. Trust me on this. Its much easier if you can get both up at the same time.:luck:

got it done yesterday. blow dryer and goo gone did the trick. finished up with pro honda polish.

no dumb-dumb stickers and reflectors make all the difference in the world.

now to get rid of that ugly fender/license plate holder! :tt:

Yeah (bolts and wires) but you still have to buy a kit. I think that's what he meant.

Only need the kit if you want to keep the stalk type signals. Its very easy to fab a bracket using the factory tag bracket to mount under the seat.
