so i'm thinking of somehow making my r1 into a temporary, street legal streetfighter. i don't have the money right now for a new headlight/bracket/fairings, so she's definately going to be naked for a while. my main problems at the moment are 1) how do i mount the computer? 2) what are my options with headlights? 3) what am i going to do about front turn signals? and 4) how am i going to conceal the wiring?

i think i'm just going to write off my twisted fairing bracket in the front, so that can be hacked away on. i'm trying to think of how to incorporate a round headlight into the front. i suppose there must be someway to fabricate a bracket that can mount to the existing fairing bracket. i will keep that bracket to mount the computer on i think, even though it's twisted, cutting off the rear-mirror mount "ears". i'm just kinda at a loss right now for ideas.... anybody done this sort of mod before?

When you say computer, are you referring to the gauges?

I thought you had a handle on getting the stuff back together. I think it would look better scratched and cracked than nothing at all.

jeeps, yeah, i mean the guage cluster....and i did repair the rear cowl fine, but the front end turned out to be a different story.....the chunk of plastic i thought was at the crash site ended up not being there, so it's not exactly fixable i don't think....too large of a gap to fill. i don't know, i'm just looking at some different temporary options till i can save up the money to get some new (used) pieces up front. thanks...

Get some fog light from the auto parts or Wal Mart. Try to stay out of trouble. They will pass for most cops in the day as long as your not drawing attention to your self.

If you were willing to spend the cash, you could easily get a streetfighter front headlight kit that holds the gauges...but that will cost money as well.... I still think you should take that bracket to a metal shop...get it fixed and straightened. Then mount any ole light in the front fairing... that way it will have the fairings with 2 big holes where the headlights were...

This is the problem though....

Is there a way I can still get this to work? I don't know how to fill that gap on the left side properly. That's why I'm trying to find some way of doing this without the front fairing till I can get a new one.

Just mount a piece of alum strapping or somin to connect that... it won't look good but at least you'll get it on... Or bust out some fiberglass and get a huffin high!

Oh and fix it with the fiberglass as well!

Actually the fairing stay should hold it even missing that big chunk.

Oh yeah I would just carefully search on EBay like everyday and you'll find it for cheap!!
:withstupi Color isn't even important. Nothing you could find would ever match the custom paint.

Ya even if you had to sport a multi colored bike till you could get it painted...it would still be good solid un cracked plastics.

yeah, i'm looking on ebay and am going to give a repair a crack in the mean time. i just brought the bent fairing bracket into a metal shop today and they're going to try to straighten it out. if they can to that, i'll try setting the broken fairing on it and seeing how it sits. i might be able to build it back together with fiberglass mat and cut/sand it to shape, then just run with one headlight. i dunno, gotta keep my eyes open on ebay. i just saw a pair of R1 headlights go for $79.00 over the weekend. can't believe i missed that. :yikes: oh well, gotta keep searching :readng:
