I've got a Ku$hitani mesh jacket, which came out before the now hugely popular Joe Rocket Phoenix jacket.

Neither of these have any substantial armour built-in and to allow air to flow in, there is little fabric. I have yet to see how well these jackets perform in protecting from road rash. Has anyone had a real-life experience or seen testing for these mesh jackets? I really don't want to find out first-hand. :bike:

I'd like to know as well..I've heard some say they work fine, and other say they shred up in the first spill. Im thinking of getting a mesh jacket this fall, so I'd be interested in knowing more too.

BTW- I just got my greedy little paws on some evap cooling gear. We're supposed to break 100 degrees again this weekend, so I'll be trying it out under the fieldsheer.

I have the Joe Rocket Sahara vest I bought when I lived in Phoenix. The hard part is judging how wet to keep it. Too wet and it drips, soaking you. Too dry and it's ineffective after 15 minutes. That, and in any other climate other than a low-humidity, they're not nearly as efficient.

I've got this jacket and it works pretty well in Houston as far as ventilation
and the armor is good and plentiful.

One of the local shops has one that was "field tested" at about 120. The rider walked away, but it's pretty clear the mesh jackets are one use only.

Since most of us dont plan on crashing all that often, I'd use the mesh too, way to hot n sticky to be wearing leather all the time around here in the summer. If something happens, they arent too expensive to replace, so eh.

They're better than nothing, no question there. On some days I wouldn't ride if I forced myself to wear leathers; that's just not going to work for me. :nonod:

I agree shan..its a touchy subject for alot of riders to say the least, especially ones that have gone down in moderate to severe accidents..some people swear by them, and some people swear at them. :lol:

It all really comes down to each rider's preferences and what is right for them. but definately, something is better than nothing. Depending where you ride alot, its not always feasable to wear full leathers for example when riding to work like I do all the time. I cant carry business casual clothes on a backpack, or wear them under leathers and have them look anything remotely close to professional.

Anyway, I wouldn't ride nearly as much during the summer without it. You notice it when you are stopped, but once you get going the air flow keeps you comfortable.

I wear nothing but joe rocket. Maybe because I know their head designer personally thru the club. But in any event. Many guys at WOS including myself have road & track tested many jackets. Joe Rocket stuff always performs. 1 of the guys has been down like 10 times in one of his joe rocket leathers and it still is in good shape.

As far as the phoenix jackets. I have one and love it!!! Nothing better to stay cool on those hot days that you don't plan on going balls out.

We have had 1 guy go down wearing one. They are known to protect you but not really be worth much after the fall. Of coarse this is for any reasonable speed. But just as with helmets, once you comprimise their protective gear too much it isn't worth anything. But at only $90-$140 for a phoenix jacket, who cares if it only lasts for one good crash. $100 vs skin....that's an easy choice!!!

I felt that the Joe Rocket mesh was cheaply made compared to the Fieldsheer, and didn't offer near the same level of protection. It had foam armor instead of CE, and the mesh started to fray in the front after just one season. You can see my review of the Phoenix 1.0 here.

I have a 2.0 and have had it for about a year and a half andhave no problems. They now have a 3.0 and I'm sure they have made significant improvements to the jackets....no biggie as long as you're wearing protection.

I'd really like to check out the 3.0. I know the 2.0 was improved by way of an internal zipper for the Sahara vest. One of our friends has a 3.0, and it looks like a totally different jacket.

I've got an AGVSport AeroMesh Jacket and I love it. It's even been through a low speed off with no visible damage. It may be the lightest most air vented summer jacket on the market with CE armor and windproof/waterproof removable liner included.

I just recently picked up this jacket at New Enough ( http://www.newenough.com/teknic_supervent_jacket_page.htm ). It is not really warm here in Spokane yet to give it a try, but it seems like a pretty good jacket. Good CE approved amour and a great price. I am looking forward to wearing it. I about baked in my gear last summer. Here is a picture of it.
