A 24-year-old Canton police officer was injured early Wednesday morning after a suspected drunker driver crashed into his patrol car.
The officer was at the scene of a one-car rollover crash on northbound I-275, near Cherry Hill, with other police and fire personnel, police said. The right and center lanes were temporarily blocked by fully-marked patrol cars to assist in removing the damaged vehicle from the scene.
A northbound motorist in a pickup truck approached the crash scene in the center lane, and failed to slow down, police said. The driver braked suddenly and skidded into the back of the 24-year-old officer's patrol car, according to police.
The officer, who was seated in the patrol car at the time of the crash, was transported to St. Joseph's Hospital in Ann Arbor with minor injuries, police said. He was later released.
Police arrested the pickup truck driver at the scene for allegedly driving while impaired.
