I think my tank bag has been scratching my paint a bit. The little swirly scratches. I always make sure the bottom is clean and the tank is clean when I put it on, but I still think its scratching. Its a Held magnetic one. IS there something you can put on between to protect your paint but still let the magnets hold well, or should I just start shopping around? Maybe its time to go to the strap kind...

I don't want to knock magnetic bags, but my mind's eye just feels more secure with something strapped onto my bike. I would say go to Joanne's fabric or your local sewing store and buy a piece of quality shirt grade flannel to put under your bag, but it might affect the magnets' ability to grip.

Yeah thats the lines I was thinkin along bumblebee, but I fear it slipping off with that. The magnets do work well, I have gone pretty fast with that thing on there and not had any worries..

Not worn, I think Held just uses a bad design or somethign maybe.. Its sorta like gritty rubber.. it holds really well but I think its TOO gritty. I dunno, maybe I just need a coat of wax. Usually I use Honda spray cleaner and/or motocraft clear coat polish.

I assume the strap kind, strap under your tank correct, or do they just strap on to the frame ? If it goes under the tank, that could be a pain for sure to swap it out too many times..

I have a magenetic Joe Rocket tank bag and have never seen any scratches from that. However, I keep my 9R regualrly waxed to prevent that.

And as far as that pic...I got one thing to say! Camel Toe!

Nothing wrong with it...just pointing it out!

No I don't wax it everytime...come on!! But I do wax the bike about once every month or month and a half.

i didnt think so..just checkin...a tank bad would probably be a good idea for me..definately more handy than having to reach around the backpack for my wallet, keys, etc.... but all this scratching up the tank talk has me a bit worried..........,I dont travel all that much so it's probably not worth it at this point for me... I've got my backpack for now that works OK.

I know..but hey, I need a jacket first right!! oh god, here we go

so whats the best tank bag ?
It really depends on your needs. My Aprilia has a plastic tank, so a magnetic bag won't work. I had a nice Cargo bag that I used on my RC51 that was very nice. My best friend has it now and is using it on his Duc.

The strap bag I have for my Aprilia is a Teknic double decker. It's cool, you can unzip either bag and zip it to the base, so it stacks in either direction. The large bag has backpack straps underneath so you can zip it off of the base and wear it. The Cargo had that same feature, but was an expandable bag rather than two bags that zip together.

I will have a Joe Rocket Manta for next summer. It won't hold much, but it will hold the stuff I'd rather not have in my pockets. Can't say as to how it works yet, as it's one of those things that will be under the tree December 25th.

I would get a Joe Rocket magnetic tank bag. Mine has 3 good sized mags on each side and has never scratched my tank. It also has a strap for around the steering head. It has a map viewer, and it is expandable....
