What are you running? Stock on my bike was Dunlop D204's with a suggested pressure of 36 front 42 rear. (cold)

I currently run Michelin Pilot Powers with around 34 in the front and 38 or so in the rear. I will probably drop the psi down even more though, now that most of my extended freeway stints are mostly done for this year..

I run mine about 2#'s low as well... but my suggested from Kaw with Battlax's is like 36/32 and I run 32/30.... I like the softer ride for Michigan roads and if the pressure is at their recomended numbers... it seems to turn in too quick for my liking..

I run the mfg recommended on the street (36 front/ 42 rear), but I ride like an old lady on the street  . That is on the Pirelli Diablo Corsa H that came with the bike stock. I ran 34/34 on the track.

F4i
I ran 36/40 on the street and 30/30 on the track with the Pilot Powers/ Pilot Sport Cups. I ran 31 front and 24 rear on the track with the Michelin Pilot Power Race Mediums.

I've had good tire life considering all the track miles. About 9-10 trackdays with the Pilot Power and Pilot Sport Cups, 5 Track Days on the Pilot Power Race, and the Pirelli's the jury is still out with only 1/2 trackday so far. I've got 8000+ mile on the F4i and I've been through 4 sets of tires.

Does Michelin recommend pressure for the Pilot Powers? I can't find it on their site. Is it a liability issue or something? What do they recommend?
For the track the pressures I ran were from STT the Michelin distributor I bought the tires from. Powers (30/30) Power Races (31/24). Theses were starting pressures with the disclaimer of 10% increase when hot. For me they have worked pretty good.

I have not found any published recommendations on their website either. I think you are on with the liability thing.

Im running Battlax on bike...Im considering putting on one of those warning valve caps (red/green indicator) like those used on cars. Anyone using them on their bike?

Never seen those NE... but I would avoid putting anything of weight on your valve stems...

See this thread! It's on the tire flies but the concept is the same.

I wonder if rebalancing the tires with the different valve stem caps would make thing even again? The pressure indicator would almost be useful.

:wredx: Bottom line check your pressure often. :luck:

I don't know if a rebalance would help any. Many people say "I've had tire flies on and they haven't did anything" but I rather not chance it on my tires when you're tearing down the pavement at 160!

Sorry for the thread jacking. Has anyone used nitogen or argon instead of compressed air  ? If so what would the difference in pressures be :skep: ?

Highjacking complete.

Yeah I ran 30/30 at the track and it worked well and also 32/32 on a much hotter day and that was good - a little blistering but nothing major. I am just wondering street pressures I should run? Damnit damn sue happy mfrs. Someone at the track said there was recommendations somewhere on their site but I can't find them. Can't they just post a disclaimer or something like the car commercials and the "this is a professional driver on a closed track"??

I would say if you are cutting up the twisties then the track pressures are probably not too far off. If you ride like an old lady like me on the street I would run mfg recommended pressures. IMHO the big deal is the lower the pressure the shorter the life and better the traction.

I would speculate (big word don't know what it means but it sounds good) that the lower the pressure the higher the temp will get going straight line which could be bad for life and potential catostrophic failure at speed, my guess only not know for fact. :2cents:

MP lives in Michigan and should run 2 - 3 lbs lower than OE specs... just to save some hard bounce off your body. Plus it makes h/w riding a bit more comfotable...

OE specs per the bike mfg with the stock Dunlops? I have Michelins now doesn't that change the rating? Why can't they just post it!

I feel your pain MP...

Ask yourself this... when you put different tires on your car do you still use the factory settings... YES most do. Should this be any different on your bike???

Yes it should in my opinion.. If Yamaha can put recommended pressures then why can't say Michelin or Dunlop or Pirelli?
