Pilot powers... the best street tire out. I have heard rumor that the qualifiers still aren't as good... so why chance it?

I can say personally say the M1's aren't all that. One more than one occasion, just turning onto an onramp for a highway, my back tire almost slid out from underneath me. i save it because you can feel it giving and you hafta make corrections. Metzeler has Sportec M3's now (newest tire out) and the tread pattern is very simalar to the Pilots and just as soft, if not, softer. they are still a bit too expensive and I'd stick with what's proven in the Pilots. they're my next tire. proly in a couple months, I'm gonna get some.

The last two sets of tires I've had were M-1s, they are great tires but they wear out fairly quick. I think I got maybe 3500-4000 miles out of the last set. A friend of mine has the powers on his busa and they have lasted a lot longer and he says they handle great.

I have since switched to the Metzeler Roadterc Z-6, I haven't had them on long enough to have an opinion but the seem okay. Since they are more of a touring tire than the M-1 they should last a bit longer.

anyway thats my :2cents:

go race compound, any brand....
you can't get any softer than that...
well, you can, rains...

but seriously, you can't cook race compounds on the street. no matter how hard you try. you just can't do it. okay, you can if you do a burn out.

whatever the stock tyres are on '05 gsxr, they suck. I already slid both tyres a few days ago on a 15mph corner (it was also around 50 degrees F).

do new tyres still have that slippery mold gel which needs to be scrubbed off?

Yeah they still need to be scrubbed in!

I wouldn't suggest race compound for the street. I have seen a rider with that and they weren't good!

Anyway, you want a tire that is going to heat up to the good operating temp of the tire. The race tires have a much higher heat point. And therefor, you won't be running them hot enough for them to perform their best.

okay, I need to educate you guys on race compounds....
they are the same street tires but are removed from the oven at an earlier stage. that's what all the special tire testing is going on at the tracks. different stages of cooking with the same compounds.

 I still think you're way off for recommending race tires on the street! Not too mention the complications if that person got caught in a rain storm.
