turn signals not working

22355 Views 67 Replies 8 Participants Last post by  zx636r
I bought a 94 gsxr750 a couple of weeks ago I have noticed that the turn signals do not work properly otherwise they do not flash when you turn the turn signal on they are solid there is no flashing. I did put new turn signals on the bike because they did not have any to begin with. I followed the wiring diagram so I know that these are the correct wires left side black(positive) Black w/ white tracer (neg) Right side Light green (positve) Black w/ white tracer (neg). I did put a new turn signal relay in I thought it was the problem.
I hope someone can help me out. Thanks flipmo

buy a manual on ebay. they come on cd for like 5 bucks shipped.
thanks for the help.
thanks flipmo
you got it. this should def be the problem. if anyone else disagrees let him know. but this should be it. its the only reason the light would stay on .

ah ha this will hopefully be and easy problem fix. your risistor is screwed. signals have a thingy that gets hot and breaks liek a fuse almost and then goes back and then breaks, thats where you get ur blinking from. i would just buy risistor and put them on, you can get them for liek 10-20 bucks, this should solve you problem.
That thingy, dilly, whatchyamacallit... is a flasher... it should either be located in your fuse box or near it and/or the battery. IT has a heat sensitive relay.... kinda as 636, that cracker, explained!!

This is frustrating but it's how things go sometimes, and electrical is tricky!

The thing with LEDs is that they don't draw enough current... or should I say, they don't draw as much as a standard filament bulb does... so there fore, sometimes, your flasher that relies on that current draw THINKS a bulb is blown. The fix is a certain size resister inline with those LED lights.... FOOLING the flasher to see the correct draw...

I am leaning more towards the flasher is junk. You should be able to get one from a auto parts store... just find yours and take it with you, because there are many different kinds/sizes...

Plus that manual idea would be nice to have around for these problems!!

Good luck!!

Also, WELCOME!!! :twfrox:

I checked with the dealership today and they said there is no resister in the wire and that I have my wires mixed up I told them that my wires are not mixed and that I did follow the owners manuel diagrams and they said bring it in but I really don't feel like taking it to them. On the wiring diagram It doesnt say anything about a flasher all it shows is a turn signal relay I guess Ill tear the fearings off again tonight and try some more. If you guys think of something please let me know. Thanks flipmo
Let us know how it goes Flip. :dthumb:
stealerships sometimes i dont think they know anything, the lights just dont blink by themselfs. lol. there is a resistor or maybe its called a relay. it might actually be in the fuse box, one of thos large black things. check it out. keep us updated. i will be getting my manual for my bike also so i will look when i get it to see what the stockones look like. but there has to be a type of relay or risistor casue the lights dont just blink on magic.
Yeh there is a relay and I changed it I though that was the problem but its not Im going to check out the wiring again tonight Ill keep you guys informed in the meantime if you have any ideas or onfo let me know. Thanks guys flip
flasher = turn signal relay

SAME THING!!!
The turn signal relay on my CBR is the black box, just like the black box on fuse panals of cars. There's no test for the black box so it has to be replaced. Since you did replace it and it still won't flash, just solid light, something else is wrong. When you press the turn signal, power appears to be going through the wiring to the bulb, bypassing the relay or flasher.

Check the wiring again. My CBR uses a green wire, common to all the turn signals, and orange for left and light blue for right. The wires coming out of the relay are the green common and gray for right and white/green for left. These wires change to the orange and light blue wires at the turn signal switch. Confusing? You betcha.
what all signals did you replace?
Hi guys I took my tank and feirens off today and followed the wires to extreme and it led me to a fuse like 3 prong thing. On the wiring diagram its called a signal generater I have no clue so I took it out and I'm going to take it to the dealership tomorrow to see what it is. Its worth a try I guess have you ever heard of this.
Thanks flipmo
Hope that helps. :dthumb:
signal generator might be a wierd name for a flasher
im gonna say that is it. 3 prongs. 1 neg. 1 pos going in to flasher and 1 pos coming back out. but i could be wrong. but damit i know im right on this one. it is some sort of flasher thingy macallit that is casueing this. if you have it wired right.

Hi guys I took that piece to the dealership today and they pulled up the wiring harness and we found thet peice on the harness and matched it up with there parts list and it is called a DIODE. I ordered the piece hoping it will solve the problem so lets see. Have you guys ever heard of this before. Thanks flip
I have a electronics degree, so yes I have heard of a diode before.
Would it have anything to do with my signals you think
