I am going to keep my 2000 GSXR750 and just make it faster. One of the first items I am looking at doing is a K&N Power Commander. I already have K&N air filter, Full Yosh Stainless exhaust. A few more mods but nothing that helps towards it going faster.

Has anyone used or is using one and what do you think of it? I am going to do it over the winter season and have it all done by the time riding season comes around. Also looking to have stage kit 3 put on as well. :)

I figure it will be cheaper then trading it in for a new 1000 and save me a lot of money.

Never done it, but I know someone who has. It works, good stuff. Too bad you couldn't make it to Road Atlanta, all the vendors were there, including K&N.
And you didnt buy me anything?? :D Damn DJ, we need to hit this the next time it works it's way alittle farther north.

You'll want to get a custom map to get the most out of the Power Commander. An off-the-shelf map will work OK, but a custom map will be much better.

Not to rain on your parade, but how much power do you expect from the power commander? To paraphrase the old hot rodders, "There's nothing like cubic centimeters". To get more low-end torque, you need a big-bore kit.

You could get a GSXR 1000 engine (there must be lots of wrecked ones), but the 1000 engine's bore is only 1mm larger than yours. The 1000 gets it's extra cc's from a 13mm longer stroke. Lots of torque with the stroke, but it doesn't match your revs. I would compare the costs of getting an 1000 engine, with cylinder boring and new pistons.

I don't think re-boring a seperate motor is what he's looking for...I could be wrong but that is usually the case...

Do like Larry says and get a custom map after you get everything on. The best part is that most of that is "bolt on". Then take it in to get tuned. You won't be dis-appointed...

Thanks Gas Man. I talked to my shop tpday and they can get me the custom map and set it all up for me.

True I was nt looking to get a 1000 engine or bore it out to add power. If I wanted to do that, I would just say the heck with it and but the new bike. But I do thank you for your reply and trying to help.

I am not looking to make it the fastest on the road but I do want to add a few more horses to it. I am getting 136 at the rear tire and looking to take it to 145-150 if possible. :D

Basically, the powercommander adjusts how much fuel is delivered based on rpm and throttle position. They offer maps you can download that were created on similar bikes with similar options.

However, every bike is different...even two bikes of the same model with the same mods will not have identical fuel requirements. To make the powercommander perfect for your bike, you need to have it tuned to your bike. This is done by creating a custom map based on your bike's fuel requirements at each rpm/throttle position setting.

Yeah, what Larry said!

A easy way to put it for all you carb guys, is that is the same as re-jetting your FI bike!

not sure what chain the 750 comes with but a mod to think about in the future during a chain replacement would be a 520 chain conversion with lighter sprockets, might add some ponies to the rear tire with the rotating weight loss. not a bad investment especially if you have to spend a little over $100 on a new chain anyways. might as well add about another $100 to it to get 520 aluminum sprockets.

I did read that one. Now on my bike, I have the Full Yosh Alum. Now with me adding the Commander, how much of a diff is there compared to slip on and full system?? :)

Don't know if there is much power difference between slip-on and full system, but the weight savings must be nice. According to Sport Rider, the Power Commander (PC) will be able to get the fuel mixture spot-on, getting rid of lean stumbles and rich top end. The PC will improve driveability, if your bike's fuel mapping was altered by the addition of K&N and pipe.

I still think you should look into a big-bore kit. The power of a 1000, with the graphics of a 750 and the insurance of a 750.

I'm the original owner of a 1979 Suzuki GS 1000. I take it out almost every Sunday. It starts right up and runs great. Pops Yoshimura's GS 1000 won Daytona around then. Yoshimura makes all kinds of stuff for Suzuki's. Wiseco was making pistons when I started riding in the early 70's and they still make fine products. Try www.gixxer.com forum for their views on a big bore kit for your 750. You would probably have to send your engine out for boring. Vance & Hines used to do great machine work, but there are probably others who can do it. Good luck.
