Hey guys, I have a 2002 SV650s - i've been running stock suspension on it since i got it, but lately, after driving passengers around my college campus, it's starting to get really soft and mushy.... my license plate even got caught up in the rear wheel once. it's THAT soft. So i got a shock off of a GSXR 1000to replace the one i ahve right now. The guy i got it from says it should just bolt right into the SV, but the maintenance shop guys think they might need to modify something to get it in right....
anyone know for sure if it will go in right? If there's modding involved, the maintenance shop will charge mucho $$$

When I upgraded my SV shock with the FoxRacing Shock the manual said it was for the SV650(s) and the gsxr so I assume and I've read that the gsxr shock will mount right up to it!

Hey I do still have the stock SV shock spring that has never been used for sale. I'd sell it for $10.00 + shipping. That might tighten things up a little. Let me know if you are interested. I'll post a pic up here in a second.

his compression in the shock may be shot tho.

if there is a preload adjuster (twin rings to compress the spring), then tighten it down. compressing the spring will increase the ride height. but be carefull not to reduce your sag too much. i like to keep my sag between 1.0 to 1.5 inches.

I have an 03. I put a 04 GSXR-1000 rear shock on mine. I had to cut out a small peice out of the battery tray for it to fit. Other than that it works great.

I put a 05 GSXR 1000 shock on my 03 SV. Only mod was cutting out a small piece out of the bottom of the battery tray. There's lots of info on this mod out there. A few sites has how to with pics. You will need to know what year of shock will fit your SV.

Hahah... it's not that the girls are big... I'M BIG!! Even a little girl on a bike with a 250+ lb guy is a lot for a stock shock!


So... I had the GSXR 1000 shock on my bike for the past few months. It's a big improvement over stock suspension! I just got an Ohlins shock installed in the rear this morning - My god, what a difference! It's so much more refined than ANY stock shock! I feel like the SV can now corner like a BEAST!! Not to mention, that mushiness that comes with accelerating out of a dead stop is absolutely gone... ugh, if only the damn thing didn't cost so much! Whatever... it's definately worth it...

I've never owned a SV but have ridden both a stock sprung bikes and some with upgraded suspensions. IMO, the suspension up-grades are worth more than all the go fast goodies put together but, that's coming from a corner junky.

This is always true...unless your a drag nut... and even then you have to do things to the suspension to put the power down.

But don't forget about re-enforcing your frame is worth a ton of extra speed as well.

I got ahold of a 04 GSXR 1000 rear shock for my SV and I might be getting a freakin steal on a whole GSXR front end. I may end up getting a F3 wheel if I can get the forks and freaking make my SV loads of fun to ride.
